I often wonder what people do all day when they are in a profession or industry I am interested in.
Just so I can get an idea of what's actually involved in doing what they do or running a similar business.
So, here you go, a look at a day in my business.
Got in in the morning, knowing that most of the day, I would have to fend for myself.
One full timer has a double hernia, so can not work more than one hour per day. Has been like that for the last 3 months. All the while - by law - I am still paying him 70% of his wage.
The other full timer has a day off, as a holiday.
My part timer doesn't come in today,, work only 3 mornings per week.
10.00 - meeting with a supplier that has been courting us for a while.
Seems like they have some interesting products that can compliment our range - he'll send me a proposal by next week
2 pallets of goods come in from different suppliers.
One part is our new range of products under our own label - exciting, as the margins are good and there's no competitve pressure on prices.
Still some work left to get it on the market - pictures for the site, sales page, positioning, accessories etc
1 pallet is a bulk shipment of 1 branded item. Need to buy bulk to get good prices and be able to compete on Amazon for this branded product.
Lunch..
Pack boxes for Amazon as we are running low on some items.
Prepare labels for another shipment and do my regular check when I find not competitive on any of my amazon best sellers (all branded products). Find out that I am bidding against a new competitor with auto pricing software.
Kills margins and we're slowly going to the bottom. Annoying as hell.
Meantime, message back and forth with a freelancer, who is taking our sales data and creating a new database so I can run email campaigns for upsells, replacements and new products.
Answer some tech questions which makes me think why I am doing this and not delegating this kind of thing. Send of a quick mail to one of the guys to discuss this change of plans.
Get in touch with our main supplier to et the overview of invoices for this week, so I can pay them and get a 2% discount for paying within 8 days. Adds up to equal our yearly rent if I always do this. Plus I get close to zero interest on the bank.
Shelve some stock and a few this and thats and its weekend.
Come home, pick up one of the kids , eat, some family time. Back to work.
On the laptop while family watches some TV - gotta get our new line on the site.
Now, checking the 2 forums I am active in (this one and another ecommerce one) and there you go. Almost 10 PM and time to start the weekend.
Hope this gives you some idea of what it's like...
Great read man, appreciate it!

@ackbar22000 - yeah not exactly glamorous.
But will do my best to fake something at some point ;-)
Great read! Sounded very familiar from my experience of small-ish ecommerce companies too.
What other ecom forum are you on?
