Taboola - Duplicating the same campaign with a higher bid

Hi guys - testing a new geo on Taboola and running a campaign at a fairly low bid. I've boosted some of the top placements, and blocked seemingly shitty placements - but I'm afraid I'm not unlocking the best widgets at this bid, or maximizing the traffic on my current best widgets.

If I duplicate the campaign and up the CPC by .03-.05 cents, giving me more leeway to boost up even further, since the Taboola limit is +50% on campaign bid, would this hurt my initial campaign. Is there another approach you guys would take?

My goal being to get the most possible traffic out of my current top widgets without spending too much + unlock the best widgets for the geo.

Yo Mate, good question. There's 2 approaches:

1) Start with agressive cpc and slowly bid down or
2) start with low cpc and slowly bid up on profitable placements

When testing a new GEOs I usally put pretty high CPC with low daily cap and monitor really tight (cutting shitty placements every 2-3h) So you make sure your ads get exposure also on competitive placements. I ve had success with both strategies... especially when launching worldwirde campaigns I prefer 2)

I'm not 100% sure if Taboola is really in control of double serving (i.e google doesnt allow), bc sometimes i see different ads from same advertiser in 1 widget leading to same content. Will duplicated my campaign and test What kinda offers u runnin? Let me know how it goes for you!

Best, Christian

Thanks Christian! On Taboola its ecommerce style offers - completely whitehat.

Question for you - not sure if you have experience in other sources, but does this strategy stand true on other native sources like RevContent, Content.Ad, etc. when testing a new geo?

If you duplicate your campaign to unlock new placements, block all placements that are currently sending traffic in your new campaign to avoiding bidding yourself up. With the new campaign you can go wild with the bid to unlock new placements.

Best play to get more traffic from your current placements and unlocking new placements are new creatives with a higher CTR.

Can't say for sure, not running offers on those sources, yet. But assume algorithm works equal to taboola / outbrain. On Adwords strat works well for me.
