Questions about affiliate networks.
What makes people trust their affiliate network?
Have there been any cases of affiliate networks not paying for all the conversions?
What sets the payout in the first place?
How can you tell if an offer is good value? How can you tell that the offer is giving a reasonable payout for the action involved?

Well, there can be such cases when a webmaster is not paid for conversions, but mostly it is for the reason that affiliate networks identify fraudulent leads generated by a webmaster
Also, there can be some networks that do not pay a commission to a webmaster until they are paid themselves by an advertiser
Although, there are also such networks (fair and responsible) that pay a commission to a webmaster no matter advertiser pays them or holds the payment
So, it depends on a network you choose to work with.

This is one of those cases where referral info (word of mouth) helps a lot, you can also browse the forum and check what networks are mentioned by the members. Having an active rep here on STM also tells you something about the network. It's always a good idea to do your own research, look for reviews, complaints ... check how long a network is running etc.

Definitely, we even had a few threads like this here on STM. The problem is, you never know what the complaining affiliate did, so it's hard to take sides. There are some networks that have weird quality and retention policies, so keep that in mind when choosing one.

Advertiser makes a deal with an Affiliate Network, they agree on certain payout that the network will receive from the advertiser for every lead that they deliver. This is based on how well the advertiser can monetize the leads as well as the current market situation.
The affiliate network then offers a bit lower payout to it’s affiliates, usually the cut is 15%-20%, even 30% sometimes, based on network. These 15%-30% are the profit margin that the affiliate network works with and such base payout is called “Street Payout”.

The only way to tell for sure is to run a test. You can also ask your AM about the performance of any offer, just keep in mind that the numbers you will get are AVERAGES. Your traffic can work way better but also way worse.
