Banner CTR and Copywriting Impact Question...
So something I've been struggling with is getting my CPC down of my banners. I've used "chat style" banners with some success, but sometimes I do run into lead quality issues which I know is a risk using this style of banner.
So I've set out to try to really focus on lead quality, but I notice when I don't use chat-style banners my CPC of my banners skyrocket. For example my CPC goes from say $0.05/click to about $0.08/click, which obviously across thousands of clicks are huge.
I guess my question is can you really bridge this CPC gap with better copywriting? (ie headlines, sub-headlines etc)
Am I supposed to be using kind of like "click-bait" headlines for banners that you see on viral sites etc?
Just curious to your experiences. Thank you

Clickbait works, yes - or simply powerfully crafted headlines (which aren't the same thing). Images are usually key on the CTR front, though. The first thing I'd look to when improving CPC is the images you're using.
Can you share some of the banners you're testing? We can probably help you improve more if we see concrete examples of what you're trying now.

Hey Caurmen thanks for replying.
I attached a couple of examples from the latest banner batch Im testing. (Forgive my crude photoshop skills

)
They seem to convert well, but the CPC is through the roof! (I'm promoting a milf offer)
I try to use non-sex banners as I feel it converts a little better for dating offers, but the CTR isn't as good as the "action" shots lol. Or maybe I should be using sex gifs?
I used to use chat banners but I ran into some quality issues on some other offers I was promoting. So I wanted I guess to do it "the right way" and figure out how to create effective banners that also delivered on quality.
Any critiques/input would be appreciated on design, copywriting etc, I'm looking for all the help I can get haha.
Thank you in advance.

Hello Jabong82
I know exactly what you are talking about, those chat-style banners can produce so nice CTRs, but it usually ends straight at the LP, where the CTR tanks quite a lot. What I found out thou, these chat banners, can work pretty well with certain LPs. I can't tell you exactly what the LPs should look like, you need to find this out on your own. This effect can go all the way down to the actual offer lander, so in order to maximize the profitability, you need to match these chat banners with the right LP and the right offer url. It can take a few days to optimize this, but results can be very good then.
Quality wise, these banners can result in quality problems, but so can a different banner style. I have found that quality issues are tied more to the source and the females on the banner + what you are promising in your copy. Put a 19 year old chick on it, that looks like she lives in the gym, with DD boobs and slam the word FREE all across the banner ... the quality will be horrible. But use older ladies, use realistic copy and advertise on solid sites ... quality will be good. Even a chat-style banner that fits these criteria can result in good quality.
Caurmen is very right about one thing, the image is crucial in adult, but I'm sure you already know this. Some female types simply pull clicks better and some even convert way better. CTR is only one of the metrics, the overall profit is more important, that's what you should focus on more. Its pretty rare to see the best CTR banner also convert the best, usually it's somewhere in the middle.

Hey Matuloo thanks for your response. For the chat-style banners I can definitely "make the numbers work", I just really haven't figured out a way to get good quality.
I do use older chicks and don't use things like free etc., I guess maybe I just have to test some more.
Do you think chat banners are the way to go? Or should I try to focus on using more "standard" banners.
I can get profitable I think on chat banners, so should I be just trying to find a way to "hang on" the offer?
Thanks in advance.

This is a hard call : I'm using both personally. You can also try a mix: chat banners for profits, standard banners to drive up the quality even if they are negative a bit.
If chat banners work well for you, try to think about where you are running them and maybe run them just on the best quality placements... could be worth a try too.

"I have found that quality issues are tied more to the source" <---- This. Have you tried exact same setup on different sources/ pop networks?

Thanks Matuloo. What are your thoughts on what makes a good CTR for a banner?
I know that image is important, but do you have any other recommendations?

Yes I have tried the same setup on different sources (banner display traffic only). It seems to be hit or miss

Image is the winner in adult, then copy. Other elements that have helped me at times : different CTA button style, animated borders, black vs white colors i.e. dramatic color scheme difference, slow vs really fast animation.

One other thing to look into: are you doing any post-processing on those images to make them pop more?
On first glance, they're all quite dark, and wouldn't leap out of the page to me.
I wrote a tutorial on making images pop more a while ago - you may find it interesting for this.
https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ight=photoshop
When I was running dating, I found that boosting saturation had a particularly significant effect - even to the point where it was really ugly.
Given the size of the banners you're using, some sharpening might work well too.
Hope that helps! Let us know if it works, or if it doesn't, and we can suggest more from there.
