I started video ads as well as image ads on Yahoo Gemini today for a white hat offer. Started getting conversions immediately which is cool but I'm wondering a few things:
- What is a good Ad CTR?
- What is a good CPC?
- Are there any good tutorials on running Gemini?
Thanks!

- What is a good Ad CTR?
As high as possible
- What is a good CPC?
As low as possible to meet your spend and ROI targets
Hmm, let me try to make that response a little more helpful....
I'm not sure that there is much point in trying to get comparative CTR's and CPC's. It's going to vary so much based on your creative, placements (are you running group 1 or group 2) focus? Device focus etc.
I've had the same campaign over a 30 day period run with a CTR ranging from 2.28% and run down to 0.62%. The CPC's varied over that period between 0.12p and 0.32. At its sweet spot that camp was able to spend very well.
I haven't seen much in the way of tutorials for Gemini, but I'd suggest you consider:
- Use the bid adjustments to create multiple campaigns to test focus on devices, group 1/2/3, and demographics (age & gender targeting can make a big difference - annoyingly the {age} token isn't supported for native so you'll need multiple campaigns to test).
- You may already know Group 1 = Yahoo properties (better quality traffic), Group 2 & 3 = 3rd party traffic (lower quality)
- There seems to be a lot of variance in the algo's ability to find you performing placements and give you the velocity you require on your CTR's, so don't be afraid to re-launch frequently.
- I haven't reached any conclusion in terms of whether the pixel/conversion tracking helps: experimented with none, with a 'view content' to track links out from my lander to offer page, and with an add to cart pixel on a customised advertisers offer lander. So far not really been able to determine how much of an impact these pixels have on placements and overall performance.
Hope that helps - if you find any great tutorials or other Gemini tips please let me know
Quick other question re Yahoo Gemini.
Is it still only targeting UK and US/CA or has it now expanded to Worldwide?
I haven't tried videos on Gemini, but a really good content CTR is around 4%. I try and keep mine between 2% and 4%. Anything under tends to get crappy traffic. The other huge benefit to having a high CTR is they charge you less on you initial CPC. I was bidding 8 cents and once I hit a 4% CTR they were charging me 5 cents
