Is this the right way to go? (8)

Is this the right way to go?

Hello Forum!

I am kind of confused right now

I had a few options months ago to start different businesses.

I chose to work my way up in AM with media buying after lack of control with several blackhat techniques.

I talked to some people registered for CPA Networks and Traffic Networks and started the first campaign run last week.

My campaign was quite okay I think.

Started out with not too much stuff to test, because my budget is slim.

These are the Banner stats for now:

1. Would you create variations of the winning banner for now?
2. Many people say it is not worth getting into Adult and I am a bit confused, because my plan was to master
this Vertical first and then spread out on different Verticals.
3. I heard that its okay, if a campaign gets not profitable with the self serve network right away, because I can change
some variables(payout/bid etc), is this right?

I appreciate every help I can get on here, thank you

Hello Dominik!

First - great start! Looks like one of your banners has some motion!

Would you create variations of the winning banner for now?
You can start identifying the main winning theme and try variations, but I would also try to find more banners like this one. Banners, especially in adult, burnout quiet fast so its always good to have more backups.

Many people say it is not worth getting into Adult and I am a bit confused, because my plan was to master
this Vertical first and then spread out on different Verticals.
Adult in terms of mobile content offers is still strong in some geos. This vertical is generally evergreen so it's not going to go anywhere.

I heard that its okay, if a campaign gets not profitable with the self serve network right away, because I can change
some variables(payout/bid etc), is this right?
Not only that, but once you got more data you can start optimising, not only banners but also placements and other specific segments like OS, device types, brands, models etc etc.

Thank you very much!

So you would cut out the other Banners and work upwards with the winning one now?

Hope you don't mind I'm jumping in ya thread, Dominik!

I just have a question for Erik on something he said above...

...start identifying the main winning theme and try variations, but I would also try to find more banners like this one.
Erik, when you said "winning theme", you're talking about the way the banner looks? As in the "layout"?

If yes, then would it be wise to start testing multiple images with this banner "theme"? Then once we find the winning image/s we'd run this banner/s for a couple days until it burns out.

Then should we restart the process of finding a new winning "theme", then an image and just run with that banner/s until they burn out then restart the process again?

Is that how you do it, or how does your process of finding a winning banner look like.

Hope you don't mind the Q's.

I think OP would also benefit from an answer to this question.

Thanks!

Let me give you my take on this, before Erik finds time to give you a reply. It's quite possible he had something similar in mind anyways

If you manage to come up with a banner that stands out from the rest, there will be a reason for it and you have to find it - in order to be able to duplicate it.

This reason can be one of the following : layout, colors, copy, imagery

In adult, the importance usually goes like this :

1. imagery (the female)
2. copy (the angle)
3. colors (overall theme)
4. layout (fonts, minor design elements)

So, if you want to use my approach, when trying to duplicate a well performing banner - first of all, make more variations by using the same female and change the copy. If it didn't work, keep the copy and change the imagery, test different types of females (brunette vs blone, slim vs chubby...).

In case these 2 tests didn't work, you have a problem, because the other factors usually don't have a dramatic influence on performance, with one exception : color scheme sometimes causes this, in case of super large sites - usually the scheme matches the sites colors so the users kinda think the offer is part of the site

Happy testing

Thanks @matuloo to chime in, I was hoping to see you here anyway as banners and adult is your game.

Matej pretty much answered it.

What I meant by theme are exactly the combinations mentioned above, so not only the layout but also the image (type of girl) and copy.
