Conversion but not idea why?

Hi all,

After AWA was planning to set up a FB + Shopify funnel and then before I run any traffic via FB (I'm still working on the ads but my Shopify and FB page is set up and functional) I get a conversion/sale. This is weird because I have not run any traffic on it whatsoever and my shop is a brand new domain as well. Hence I am concerned it is some sort of scam as I can't imagine why this would happen? So far all the details and everything appear to check out though.

Thanks,
SP

Do you have any traffic analytics installed? It's quite possible that google sent you a visitor or a user got there by following some link maybe ... did you place a link anywhere, pointing to your shop? Maybe a visitor clicked through from your facebook page ... try to check you traffic stats in case you have a way to check it. A random sale can happen even from 1 click

Maybe they arrived direct via your domain if its something people might type in?

Perhaps its an expired domain?

Could just be a fluke.

Just one conversion/sale? Don't worry about it and stick with your original strategy. AM is a numbers business and you need a "representative data sample" to make any meaningful conclusions so 1 sale doesn't tell you anything.

He isn't actually making any conclusions based on that 1 sale, the OP is concerned with possible scam since he didn't start any promotion yet - I guess he is also unsure whether he should fill and ship the order too.

@matuloo exactly my thoughts, but since the order isn't that big so I went ahead and fulfilled it. Though the address being in Puerto Rico seems concerning.

Thanks everyone for the input, the conversion was from FB shop and still don't know why it happened. And now that I have begun running traffic I have fallen from my ROI of infinity, bummer.

Before shipping the order, why didnt you call the customer to double check the sale? Since volumes are still small you could make the call yourself. Once volumes are bigger a call center is a good "double check" and I guess its cheaper than sending fake orders

Verifying orders by a call, when in doubt, is certainly a good idea and many e-shops are doing it already. In some GEOs it's a must, especially if you decide to accept COD (cash on delivery) payments.

Exactly. There are certain problems that don't need a tech solution.

Also, your suggestion got me thinking about how it almost seems like marketers (especially affiliates) often forget that there are real human beings behind all these clicks, conversions and actions*

Some of the best data and insights come from talking to the people clicking ads and buying or not buying stuff.

* not taking into account bots

I remember this happening to me as well, some order from India. They did not pay, selected some pay-later option that was still on because the shop wasn't even live/promoted. Obviously a bit dodgy so I just deleted/ignored it.

If it was a real CC transaction, payment had gone through and all, I'd just follow up by email.
