True, but there is more to it : deliver low quality leads and you are done, with affiliate networks, there is more space for trial and error. Payment terms are usually not so good too when going direct, not all direct advertisers agree to weeklies.
Going direct is an option for sure, but make sure your quality is good before you do that.

Yeah, it all depends on which network and which advertiser for sure, going direct isn't always better ofcourse. I prefer to go directly, adjustments/request/other issues are picked up way faster, without someone in between. This way you can understand their product better, and they understand the source of traffic better.

True again, I personally prefer to mix it up a bit, I promote both affiliate networks and direct advertisers. And from some reason, I often have better relationship with affiliate managers from a network than when going direct ...

Yeah for sure, you deliver them bonusses haha. And networks are more leaning on you in general, where an advertiser most of time already has a solid amount of sources working (if not in-house). Mixing up is best indeed, also for parties, incentives and having some social chat (skype, but also during events).
