Question: Top 1000 Targets vs RON

Hi all!

I have a quick question with regards to the initial start of the campaign. Should I start a campaign with Run of Network (RON) considering that I will be spreading my money across thousands of targets or should i narrow it down to top 1000 where at least the spending is more focused?

P.S: I am running my campaign on Zeropark

Thanks and appreciate anyone's help on this!

Kind Regards,
Maerwine

I've been using RON so I can figure out exactly what those top 1000 placements are.

Sure you're just using the shotgun approach but if you're just starting out then at least you can collect some data that can be put to use to build your future efforts on.

How are you going to pick the top 1000, do they have some option like this? I didn't use them for a while so I'm not sure about it.

The theory is right, the more placements you will target, the harder it will be to optimize them with limited budget.

On the other hand, in case you are able to spot the worst placements really fast, you might be able to tame the regular RON too. You need to be more conservative at first, and cut more aggressively - once you have somewhat solid funnel, you can retest some of the blocked placements again.

Personally, I'd use RON with Zeropark. As said above, cut any poor performing budget drainers aggressively.

Thanks all for the replies so far.

I totally agree on aggressively cutting. Only thing I found so far is that in RON, the spends seems to be pretty evenly spread out across the targets thus causing them to spend at roughly the same rate. This rate happens to be pretty slow and thus do not allow me to cut aggressively since after 2-3 hours, they are still only around 0.5x payout.

Typically, how much and how long do you guys spend on RON testing? Perhaps I am short changing myself in terms of budget testing and length.

You can up the bid or change daily caps to increase the speed of delivery

Also monitor your LP ctr closely, in case the traffic not clicking through, there is no point in buying it. This can help you identify some very poor placements early, even with low spend. As a rule of thumb, you should wait for about 2x offer payout to safely cut a placement if all the other factors like "LP ctr" look normal.

I must admit, I've not seen this myself. From what I've seen, you'll get whatever impressions your bid allows from each target, depending on where you are in the bidding position - taking into account the way their algo distributes things between the different bid positions, and how much traffic each target actually has available to buy.

I didn't mention it before, but you also need to remember that the more you cherry pick stuff from the traffic sources (i.e. just using the top x amount of targets), the harder it will be to scale any promising offers to others. Also, you might find that it's often the smaller targets that convert better, so limiting yourself in that way also isn't ideal.

Hard to give you a figure for an initial offer test budget, but personally I'd just chuck 10x the payout at the camp, then go from there. You need to keep that side of things as low as possible.
