300 Likes Is All It Takes For This Machine To Know You Better Than Your Partner

Crazy article about a psychologist who developed a method for Big Data to analyze facebook profilese and determine a psychoanalytical profile on each person.

It's written in German, but since Google Translate has become so much better, right-clicking -> ."translate to English" makes it read almost as if a native had written it.

"The psychologist Michal Kosinski has developed a method for analyzing human beings by means of their behavior on Facebook minutely. And helped Donald Trump win."
https://www.dasmagazin.ch/2016/12/03...ie-bombe-gibt/

"Kosinski and his team refine the models unceasingly. In 2012, Kosinski proves that it is possible to predict from an average of 68 Facebook-Likes a skin color (95% accuracy) whether it is homosexual (88% probability) whether it is a Democrat or Republican (85%). But it goes even further: Intelligence, religious affiliation, alcohol, cigarette and drug consumption can be calculated. Even if the parents of a person have remained together until their 21st year of age, the data are shown. How good a model is is shown by how well it can predict how a test person will answer certain questions. Kosinski continues as if in an intoxication: Soon his model can estimate a person better than an average work colleague by means of ten Facebook-Likes. 70 Likes are enough to surpass the friendliness of a friend, 150 of the parents, with 300 Likes, the machine can predict the behavior of a person more clearly than their partner. And with even more Likes can even surpass what people believe of themselves to know."

It is already released.

It has been released for several years.

It is called lookalike audiences.

And they work spookily well if you test them thoroughly and have a good seed list.

Very very interesting!

Guess we're more predictable than we think we are.

Here's more info on lookalike audiences as mentioned by cmdeal:

In a way, yes.

But what facebook's Lookalike audiences does is matches up users that are similar to your seed audience using
algorithms, based on a large amount of factors, whatever they may be.

What this psychologist has found, is a way to find out who individual people are, what they like, what their habits are, etc.
based on the likes they place on page/peoples pictures, etc. Which, if I'm not mistaken is public information.

Don't get me wrong, Lookalikes are epic, and definitely make our lives easier, but Lookalikes is more of a blunt tool, as opposed
to this "discovery" which would allow you to do extremely granular targeting on a mass scale, with the right tools.

Haha I figured as much! But the link is more for people that didn't know about lookalikes before. Thanks for starting this thread!
