Just put my Banner on a dumb website... now what?

Hey Guys!

FB and Google (and Bing) banned my campaigns so I just went for Direct buying.

I put a banner on a website and now I need to know how can I measure the # of views the banner gets everyday? (not clicks, views)

Is there a 'dumb-newbie friendly' way to do it on Google Analytics? (beside using a tracker or asking the owner of the website)

Thank you very much if you took the time to read it!
Have a great day

Hello,

you need some script for this - how is the banner loaded? Did you send it to the site owner, or are you hosting it? In case you are hosting it, ask someone to make you a simple script that will count the amount of times the banner gets loaded, which will show the amount of impressions - but that will be a very raw number. You can even check the server logs and find the number there - by using some log analyzer that can build stats.

In case you just sent it to the owner, there is no way you can track impressions without working with the owner.

When doing direct buys, you should utilize some adserver, to have the ability to serve GEO targeted banners too and have a better control of the campaign.

Super-fast response matuloo! Much appreciated, thanks

Actually I'm hosting the banner and I sent the website owner a Banner Code which I generated with a software.

I think I'm going to purchase a script like the one you've just suggested me. Being on a forum like this is a blessing!

Thanks once again and have a great day!

Great, so since the banner is served from you via a code, you can utilize a script that would count and also analyze the traffic it is served to.

Definitely look around for available ad server options - check openx ads for example, I used it in the past, but not sure how good it is these days.

You need an adserver for direct buys, try adbutler for a cheap option

Check us out at avid ad server (avidadserver.com). Regardless if you go with us or not, an ad server would definitely solve all of your impression tracking as well as calculated metrics like click through rate, spend, revenue, and conversions. An ad server also lets you split test and rotate banners without having to go back to the publisher to update the banner link.

I second Revive, I haven't used one since Open X a few years back but soon got the hang of it again, its Open Source and free, you can do pretty much everything you want, split banners, check stats etc

Have you used it personally? I will need a good adserver too soon, so will have to look at available options.
