One question I have been getting recently from affiliates is about running non-mobile offers on a mobile traffic source, and if it is allowed.
The answer to this is that I don't reccommend it. The reason we have our offers set up on neverblue as 'Mobile Optimized' is that they have Server side (S2S) tracking, which means there will be no loss of conversions due to client side pixel fire.
For instance, all iPhones are defaulted NOT to have cookies enabled, so all conversions coming from iPhones will NOT register with your network/traffic source unless it is on server-2-server tracking.
This is one thing that sets us apart from some of our competitors: All of our offers are S2S tracking, meaning there will be NO conversion loss. If there are campaigns that you want to run with mobile, just let me know, and I can request it from the advertiser.
So this means if I use a non-mobile offer on a mobile network, run it through my cpvlab tracker that there aren't any conversions happening?
Hmm...don't some networks have server-side tracking set up for ALL offers?
You bet!
Every mobile offer on our network is S2S tracking.
I have had $x,xxx, xxx success promoting non mobile offers on mobile traffic. Yes tracking sucked, but lead quality was good.
I would definitely recommend to throwing in non mobile offers for intial tests.
I ran CPM (which means there is no minimum CPC). It was up to me what CPC I ended up paying, and how hardcore I wanted to split test. No I did not rely on any glitches or over runs.
Have you had any issues with JumpTap, Buzzcity and the likes to letting you run CPM? - did you spend a lot on CPC first?
or are you direct?
Let me just say I didn't use mainstream mobile ad networks, I wasn't even able to target Carrier or handsets.
If I had made an assumption whether this campaign would of worked or not, I would of said HELL NAW!
I used a flog (not mobile optimized). Mobile no no.
I used tonnes of images on the flog. Mobile no no.
I promoted duel offers (neither mobile optimized). Mobile no no.
I made people get out their credit cards TWICE. Mobile no No.
It stumps me till this day why this worked. It went against everything we are taught about mobile.
It just reinforced the idea that assumption is the devil. Assumption could of cost me the price of a house.
I was purchasing actual mobile ads.
This thread is a mindshatter! I've never thought of non mobile offers on mobile, let alone the fact of Lorenzo is talking some huge numbers that are possible.
It's an interesting area trying understand why people surf using their phones.
If the majority people had the option to use their computer or phones to surf, I'm guessing the majority would chose to use their computers.
So the next step is figuring out when do people surf on their phones.
A few scenarios are:
When they are in transit.
When they are in bed.
When they want access sites they are not allowed on their work computers.
When they want privacy to access sites they wouldn't using their home computers.
When they are on the toilet.
When they are chilling in the lounge watching TV.
Depending on the kind of site, one of those scenarios might dominate. Figuring out which scenario/s comes up for the site/s you are targetting could be hugely beneficial.
^^^ sometimes I'm at home and surf on my iPhone if I'm in another room... usually not for long, but in my city when you go out, tons of people are just staring at their phones, its ridiculous.
hey Mr. Green.
...It'd be pretty awesome to have dayparting on your conversion tracking, wouldn't it? ....Almost time for a new Guest Post spot on your blog....

Marty
@mrgreen,
Since you ran CPM, may i ask what's your average cpc?
