Direct link and Landing Page

Hi Guys!

Nice to meet you! I`m Luca, from Italy and I`ve just subscribed to STM. Since i`m just starting out, I need one clarification regarding Landers:

- Do you usually opt for Direct linking (allocating directly the Offer Lander)? or..
- Do you build or rip your Lander (in order to get also the user details to send out also email on your side) redirecting to the Affiliate offer?

I`ve just some confusion on this topic, since I was reading about Landers which act only as a sort of bridge, `warming the user` for the offer, without collecting email. In this way, it doesn`t affect the final Conversions since we ask the user to click twice (Lander + Offer)?

Thanks!

Luca

The idea would be for the landing page to adequately presell the visitor, so that when they get to the offer page, they'd be more willing to follow through with the desired action.

You are right in saying that it IS an additional click, and many new people have difficulty wrapping their heads around this. Ideally though, the beneficial effects of the pre-selling will outweigh the extra barrier of having to click through one extra thing in the funnel, to result in an overall increase in conversion rate.

Some offers will indeed work just with direct-linking, while others will require a lander to convert well, or even at all.

No amount of explanation will be nearly as convincing as seeing stats for yourself. Try split-testing landers with direct-linking and observe the difference. When testing landers, try to test a variety of the most popular ones (that you see on Adplexity for example). Depending on the particular offer type, and even the particular offer, direct-linking may work better or worse than the landers you're testing.

As for collecting emails - if you're good at monetizing subscribers then by all means test this! I've seen reports from members saying that in some cases, adding an opt-in will not significantly affect the conversion rate of the subsequent offer the visitor is sent to.

Hope that helps! Please feel free to ask for further clarification if needed.

This shift in thinking is quite interesting. These days I cannot imagine NOT using a landing page :-)

As Amy said, sometime it works, and worth a testing, but 99% you will have to use a landing page I would say, so get comfortable with them as soon as possible.

You can rip first and start from there. Then you can add your own twists and split test it. Or you can change the copy/angle, scripts etc etc.

Hi, Luca!

Hope you're doing fine.

As @Vortex told you before, even if the prelander is a web page that comes before the actual landing page for the offer - it’s another step before the conversion - people use prelanders that help convince users, or predispose them to ultimately convert.

That’s why it’s really important for the prelander to have content that engages the user and that's related to the offer you’re promoting. What kind of mobile prelander is more engaging? It all depends on many different factors such as the type of offer, the GEO, and also smaller factors like some color or disposition in the prelanders.

This is the reason why it’s good to test many prelanders by split testing. That's how you can see which ones perform better and focus on those.

These prelanders can really be a very powerful tool to boost performance.

Nevertheless, a landing page doesn’t do everything. It’s still crucial to have a great banner that drives traffic to it (in the case of a display campaign) and a good offer that actually converts.

Plus: there are situations where it’s appropriate to create a direct link. When? In those cases in which the offer has an aggressive conversion flow, or when your traffic is really cheap or super targeted, or even when you’re promoting rotating offers with different content (it becomes difficult to create a good landing page).

Remember that your main goal is to gain a competitive advantage over other affiliates. The greater the advantage you have, the more money you’re going to make. Therefore, don't limit yourself just because you don’t wanna take the extra time needed to develop a campaign. Put some effort into designing and testing your prelanders and make it rain!

Cheers!

Hi Guys! I really appreciate your suggestions. For the beginning, I will test out 4 Direct offers vs. 2 Landers (rotating 2 offers for each of them). Then, I will try to test out a Lander with an email optin in order to evaluate the profitability of the email marketing channel in the medium term.

Regarding AdPlexity, btw, do you opt for the mobile version or native one? Do the Mobile includes also Desktop Landers?

Thanks again!
