Hey guys I recently noticed that popads has an option for "blank referrer". Can anyone tell me (as the guy i wrote there didn't know) would this circumvent adplexity and other tracking tools ? or is it like a DMR and won't help in those instances? IF the latter how does it differ from a DMR? Cheers.

There is a different reason Popads added referrer blanking recently and the reason is Google Analytics.

Here is the explanation from Popads:

In June we have been alerted that Google Analytics has stopped counting our traffic. After over a month of contacting Google Analytics support, Google has finally admitted that they are deliberately filtering our traffic and there is nothing they will do to fix it. No reasons were provided either. In order to resolve this problem, we have added Referrer blanking option in campaign settings. When Google Analytics does not see that the traffic is coming from PopAds.net, it is counted correctly. If Google Analytics is an important tool for you, please enable Ref Blanking or contact Google Analytics support to complain.

I'm not sure if this would help to block spy tools, as they can follow the redirect paths, I would say not (it would be too easy).

From what I understand, what this does is just show your traffic in Voluum as coming from Unknown or Blank referrer but it has nothing to do with the visitors that leave your landing page and what referrer shows there. That means it doesn't help with spy tools, doesn't help with cloaking the affiliate network. It's purely for people who buy traffic and use Google Analytics for their websites. I couldn't think of a usage for someone who does media buying for sweeps, pins, apps, etc. on pops.
