I'm in the process of building a following in the dog niche. I have an amazing brand name, great content, etc... Right now I'm funneling traffic into a daily newsletter which I plan to start monetizing as soon as I figure out what product and/or offers to promote.
My brand is sort of centered around keep dogs healthy, happy, and so on. So...
One idea that I have been playing around in the back of my mind is lead gen for pet insurance then cross-selling related products (physcial and digital) I've done some lead gen (host and post style) before in the college niche, but never in the dog niche.
Does anybody have any experience with pet insurance lead gen for dogs? Is this a niche that's worth getting into?
I "played" with the DOGS niche a bit, wrote a post about it a while ago, check it on my blog if you have a spare minute : http://www.matuloo.com/small-niche-sites-with-huge-roi/
Based on the emails I got from people, and I got quite a few to my surprise, the main concerns were : diet, behavioral problems/training and a problems related to traveling. Insurance wasn't really mentioned much, thou I had one guy who asked whether he can get some insurance against the damages done by his dog
But maybe I can get you some tips anyways.
I did some research and found several products that could fit the concerns :
- training programs, either local trainers or guides. I guess local dog trainers might be interested in leads. The clicker training method was very popular at that time, not sure how much it still is, and I found one affiliate product that sold a book plus the clicker device - try to search for it, maybe its still around.
- diet programs, ebooks on various diets - owners of pet e-shops should definitely be interested in leads. I found several info-products regarding diet on clickbank, there must be some there still.
- traveling - try to find dog hotels that you could sell email blasts to, maybe there is some country-wide branch that might be interested. You could probably also sell stuff that comes in handy for people that travel with dogs.
I also noticed there were some really high paying keywords in adsense, like $5 a click, I guess if you could write articles about those topics, it might be an option too.
Pet trackers? Affiliaxe had a specific offer for this a few months back.
Clickbank had/has a nice looking VSL dog training video series...
My company's network has s customised dog food offer:

That link gives detail on a U.K. Incent offer - not sure if they have other geos or non-incent offers integrated but if you hit me with a PM I'll intro you to an AM to see if they can help.
Pet insurance was always a solid performer for us in the U.K. cashback market - but that traffic might have had a different mindset.
