Traffic Junky & Voluum question...

Hey Stackers,

I'd like to get your guy's feedback on this. I'm going to run a campaign in TrafficJunky with Voluum using rules. First time using that feature so I'm not entirely sure if I'm doing this correctly, any feedback is appreciated.

Here's what I'm working with...

>4 angles
>12 banners total
>3 banners per angle
>4 LP's, one for each angle

I added custom variables to Voluum for my traffic source like so... (7-8 are my custom vars, - 1-6 are TJ's.)

So I setup the "rules" in Voluum like so... ("ang" = angle.)

I think I'm doing good so far, this is the part where I'm not so sure if I'm doing correctly.

In TJ, when I submit the banners, do I have to change the URL's for each individual banner like this?...

http://www.domain.com/xxx-xxx?banid={banid}?ang={ang1} - This URL should direct to lander with angle 1
http://www.domain.com/xxx-xxx?banid={banid}?ang={ang2} - This URL should direct to lander with angle 2
http://www.domain.com/xxx-xxx?banid={banid}?ang={ang3} - This URL should direct to lander with angle 3
http://www.domain.com/xxx-xxx?banid={banid}?ang={ang4} - This URL should direct to lander with angle 4

Do I manually change the "{ang}" part to "{ang1} or {ang2}" etc... so that the traffic directs to the lander that has the rule for that angle?

Please let me know if I'm doing it wrong or if that is indeed the correct way and I'm going in the right direction.

Thanks for your help.

As for the rules setup, can't comment because you didn't show the setup, but lets assume you've done it right

The custom variables : any custom variable that is not supported by the source, has to be entered into the URL manually by yourself. So yes, you need to change it yourself for every banner and then use the possible values in the rules setup.

Matuloo,

Thanks so much for your help man.

I forgot to include the screenshot of the rules setup, all this tracking stuff just confuses me like hell. I'm still learning as I go.

So here is the setup of the rules in Voluum.

The only thing I would change would be the "ang1" to "ang2" or "ang3" to direct traffic with the specified custom variable in the link to the correct lander. Is that correct? I would have to create a new rule for every angle like I've done above in the screenshot.

So I was going in the right direction here. Good to hear!

Thanks again for your help, Matuloo.

Yup, looks correct to me I think you understand it right.

...
No.
http://www.domain.com/xxx-xxx?banid={banid}&ang=ang1
All variables in { } - its a networks system variables.

But let's see more. You want to test different Landing? If yes, then you do not want to use rules for this.

You can directly add 1/2 or 10 LP and test them immediately. Then turn off the ones that are going bad.

2. Why you not tracked SpotName and SiteName? This will help easier the optimization process.

Hi il3n1n,

You're correct. The question mark should be an ampersand. My bad, I wrote the URL from memory.

As for the brackets, are they not suppose to be on the placeholder? Should I remove them?

Yes. If you want to use your custom variables you need to write them without brackets.

I'm testing landers that have different angles, and I'm directing people that click on banners to the lander with the same angle. I'm doing this to keep the funnel consistent.

I'm only running on 1 site / placement. I'm not running RON. So for the moment I don't need to track those tokens.

I created a new campaign in Voluum and tried the rules filtering the way I have it on my initial post, but I couldn't get it to work. The campaign URL was being directed to the main path, not to the rules that I had setup, even if the URL had my custom variable in it.

But I was able to make it work by using the "Flow" feature, then using the Rules inside of it.

I don't know if I'm confusing the two or what, but I made it work the way I wanted it using the Flow feature so I'm not even gonna ask anymore questions.

Also, thank you @il3n1n for this great advice!!

If you want to use your custom variables you need to write them without brackets.
Saved me a headache and from having to keep asking more questions here in the forum.

Thanks again guys.

Totally missed those brackets, not that they couldn't be there, but they would also have to be used in the rules setup. But its definitely better NOT to use them at all, to make sure there is no conflict with network-side tokens.

OP wanted to use rules in order to send traffic from banners with angle A to LPs using angle A too, so it was a correct use of rules IMO.
