I looked into pop traffic and banner/display traffic and I still encounter some misconceptions.
1. I always think that a popup/popunder appears as a landing page that is forced onto the viewer, so each impression equals a visit (if the window with the popunder is not closed before that). Is that true or not?
I don't see how there can be a popup impression without it being a visit.
2. How can I know how big my popup dimensions are when they appear on the media screen? Do they have the maximum dimension on each device type?
3. And thinking about banners I was wondering if there are two types of banners. Those that are fixed on some websites and those that appear coming from an angle, like the antivirus banners on the desktop or banners while playing mobile apps (can't remember if that one was fixed or not).
4. On the ad network popcash I don't see a way to choose between different connection types. Isn't that some huge disadvantage using that one?
5. On another network I see instead of wifi / non-wifi connection types like Cable/DSL (guess that counts as wifi?) and cellular/carrier (non-wifi?)
6. I read through some guides and I found that general testing approach for mobile offers: choosing 2-3 offers, using 5-10 landers for each offer and run the offer campaigns on a few ad networks. But for what kind of traffic is that approach used? pop traffic or display/banner?

True. You might have clickloss from the traffic source to your tracker and then to the affiliate network though.
2. How can I know how big my popup dimensions are when they appear on the media screen? Do they have the maximum dimension on each device type?
They usually are full screen. So you need your page to be responsive. You can check with Google Chrome (using inspect element option) to see how it would look on some of the main mobile devices.
3. And thinking about banners I was wondering if there are two types of banners. Those that are fixed on some websites and those that appear coming from an angle, like the antivirus banners on the desktop or banners while playing mobile apps (can't remember if that one was fixed or not).
There are many types of banners, based on dimensions and how they appear on websites and in apps, and what content they could have. Some "banners" are interactive interstitials for example.
4. On the ad network popcash I don't see a way to choose between different connection types. Isn't that some huge disadvantage using that one?
Yes, pretty big one. You have to find ways to monetize the traffic that doesn't convert for your "main" offer. If you are starting out, go with Propeller, AdCash, PopAds. They have a few more targeting options. Otherwise, for PopCash, you can also have a look at services like Monetizer.co and Mobifreak. They can monetize traffic that is not good for your main offer.
5. On another network I see instead of wifi / non-wifi connection types like Cable/DSL (guess that counts as wifi?) and cellular/carrier (non-wifi?)
Yes, usually carrier = Mobile, and everything else is counted as WiFi. Quite simplified but you will get used to these things... Best to ask for each offer what they mean, and if you have an account manager at the traffic source, since they can clarify in detail for their part.

For all types you can use such a strategy but 5-10 landers is quite a lot, when you can check out AdPlexity and choose top 3 landers. Also, 2-3 offers is probably not enough long term. You won't hit gold in your first 2-3 offers, especially when starting out.
Manu served you well so I'm not gonna repeat what he said. You might however want to read a few tutorials I wrote about various traffic types, for a better understanding of the delivery methods :
