High CPC on Google Display - Any Suggestions?

Hello, I am running a Rent To Own campaign on Google Display, I have adwords and display images. I just got my first days results back, I am spending around $1.44 per click, 1188 Impressions, 9 clicks, .76% CTR. I have followed all the instructions on these two threads (below), is their anyone else out there that can give some good tips for further optimization? Thanks

CPC's are notoriously high in the 4th quarter and I am seeing much higher than normal cpc's this month as well. In saying that, it sounds like you are just beginning this campaign and still have quite a bit of work to do. Your CTR is extremely low, so I would work more on your ads and try and improve those numbers. Targeting is obviously very important. I would suggest sites like lowermybills.com, credit repair sites, and anywhere where people with lower credit would venture to go. You can assume that most people with poor credit will be your target audience, hence them wanting to rent-to-own. I would also suggest targeting credit bureau's, credit score sites, etc. But you definitely are not going to make money with that CTR, so that should be your first goal. I would try new placements first and then A/B images, etc. Don't do everything at once or you will not know what made any improvements, etc. Once you have those two facets of your campaign a bit more dialed in, split test offers to see if you can squeeze anything else out of it (sometimes a good offer can make ALL the difference in the world) assuming you can get people there at a cheaper cost.

You can divide the advertisement by geo. For example, if advertising is for the US, then you can divide by state (1 campaign = 1 state).

At the end of the day, it is a process you have to address your challenge piece by piece.

Just following tips in all honestly hardly cuts it.

If your ctr is low see which ones get clicks or conversions at first and start creating more ads of that nature.

The display network ads requires you to break a user's chain of thinking to attract them to your ad and offer, the intent is not direct like searching intended keywords. Keep working at the process to find what works for you with your potential users/ customers.

Once you start getting consistent clicks from ads in relation to your offering, then work on you landing pages to see which gets clicks to your offer and conversions.

Step by step you modify and learn what works and cut the display websites having impressions.

Unfortunately just following a how to is the answer, it your starting point to get momentum.
