Hi STM, Newbie here.
I've been making some steps towards starting my first campaign, and in preparation of that, I have been eyeing advertisements on Facebook to get an idea of what kind of ad copies other affiliates might be using.
Today, I came across an ad on Facebook that I thought appeared to be very aggressive. I was wondering how aggressive someone can be on Facebook without risking being banned? For instance, I've heard that words that target the audience (for instance, using the word "you") is prohibited.
Could someone shed some insight on this? Much appreciated.
As far as i know, you can use the word "you", but you cant call out specific aspects of a user. Eg, use "mom" in an ad targetted to moms
The ad is annoying, but I wouldn't say it's aggressive from an AM perspective.
"You" is fine. How else are you supposed to talk to people?
The issues come from calling out personal attributes of a person that imply they are being targeted, unless that information is highly relevant to the ad destination.
E.g. targeting single people and saying "Still single?" is not OK.
Targeting people who are 25-30 in New York and saying "OMG this T-shirt is so me!!! >> I'm proud to be 27 shirt" is not OK
Targeting people who are 25-30 in New York and saying "Ready for your next dentist visit? We offer discounts for all working professionals in New York aged 25-30" is not OK unless the ad goes to a page where there is a specific offer for people in NY aged 25-30, where this now makes the advert content relevant to the offer. This is an area where FB will ultimately decide, flip a coin.
Targeting people who like Candy Crush and saying "Huge candy crush fan? Install this game!" is generally fine because you are calling out interests, not personal attributes. FB wants to serve relevant content so having interest-focused ads is in line with that, provided it doesn't get too creepy.
