What is the Best Vertical and Traffic Source for Newbies

Hi guys,

I have been digesting the threads in this forum and I'm loving it.

I noticed that a good entry for newbies is app installs in mDSP and the mobile appetiser was the best guide to follow.

But the thing is the guide was publish a year and a lot of things may have changed since then (I might be very wrong).

What is currently the best/lowest entry vertical and traffic sources for newbies?

There is no "best" vertical or traffic source for noobs. However, sweeps are popular right now with popup ads - but honestly you could start anywhere. That's just the vertical I see most often on Follow-Along threads.

Good luck!

I would say go for PIN submit offers and try it on POPs, this seems like the easiest combo to me right now.

If I were starting right now I would check all successful follow along threads here to make a decision where I could to start
As already said - there no any best verticals for newbies. You should decide by yourself cause for one person pin submits will be best for another one - sweeps etc

By the way here is a great guide about verticals

You can check Adplexity to see what's doing the most volume right now:

-Go to Adplexity

-Set the "date" filter at the top to something recent - last 7 days will do.

-Set "Adtype" to popup, "Country" to your best geos or basically any geo you would like to target next.

-Set the the little drop-down on the upper right corner to "Received most traffic".

-Click into some of the landers and you'll see which offers are doing the most volume.

This thread is recent - will give you some ideas:

Hey!

How's it going?

There are many verticals that work well nowadays.

I suggest you start with something simple such as mobile subscriptions.

If you prefer mainstream subscriptions or app installs, you'll need to worry about traffic source, segment, offer, banners and - most of the times - prelanders. You can also try adult subscriptions, where the offers are not that different, so you can ask your AM for the best offer in a segment or simply run the smartlink, which is the algorithm that always picks the best offer for each segment.

The advantage is obvious. If - in other verticals - you have to find a profitable match of traffic source + segment + offer + banners for each offer, there are fewer variables in the adult vertical, so it's easier to find a profitable match.

You can ask for the best offers or use the smartlink and then your only task is to find the good traffic source. Moreover, the ideas for the banners are similar for any adult offer, so it's a one-time task to find the best ones and then use them for all the offers. In case you don't want to deal with banners, you can try pop and redirect traffic, which work pretty well for adult subscription offers.

Since you're a newbie, I strongly recommend you ask your AM for the best offers, segments, and traffic sources.

It's their job to provide all this info!

Hope I've been able to help!

Cheers!

I like to recommend app installs for learning purposes because:
- its very easy to get conversions on them and
- therefore you get a lot of data points
- which helps you to learn good basics of optimisation

You can even make some profits on them. Nobody talks about them much, but they still work in 2016.
Yes you have a lot of KPIs and so on, but you are learning, so you won't make any big damage.

Mobile content offers are great as well, but you will have to learn how to flow your traffic, and target the right carriers, there will be less volume, higher bids.

Just my 2 cents, I wish you a lucky choice!

I would also look into Sweepstakes offers. Simple SOI with broad appeal (Win an iPhone anyone?) and they are available in many GEOs.

I think its a relatively noob freindly vertical without too many restrictions and quality issues.

I would still say sweeps for vertical and these days I'd pick PUSH as the traffic format. It's still pretty tolerant to the more aggressive angles and the clicks are cheap. It's very volatile though, so the results might jump up and down a lot, but for learning purposes, it's the best pick.
