Checking Speed of Site on Wordpress

Hi guys,

Why is it that when I run speed test multiple on a wordpress site with a tool like tools.pingdom.com, it keeps reporting different load speeds?

Thanks

How different were your results?

Did you always choose the same server?

Different "ping" locations could cause this problem.

Also use of several external scripts that needs to load from third party servers can cause some "random" delays.

Would like to know this as well, the result will never be exactly the same. Every repeated test will show a slightly different result.

It could also be a sign of a problem either with your host, their connectivity, your server load or your wordpress install.

What Erik mentioned is an option too - do you have any external scripts or plugins on the site that have to connect to some remote DB? For example some counter, ad server ... ?

Yes I did choose the same server.

I have some external plugins and scripts that might be the reason.

You didn't answer the basic question, how big are the differences between the various tests?

Even reasonably large percentage fluctuations are normal. I'll often see 200ms load, then 350ms, then 200ms again.

That's why you should really use a tool like Gatling to do serious loading time testing. Pingdom's good for a hot take and often good enough (just test a bunch of times to make sure the first result wasn't an outlier)

What isn't normal is to see multi-second fluctuations. If you're seeing 500ms, then 1.4s, then 2.3s, then 500ms, I'd strongly recommend looking into your configuration.

As others have said, it would really help to know what numbers you're seeing here.

As a side note, why are you running Wordpress? If it's for conventional affiliate campaigns, I'd definitely not recommend that.
