Burst of Conversions Question - Pops/Sweeps

Whats up guys.

Got a weird question for y'all that I cannot figure out.

Started testing a new sweepstakes camp on Popads.

Spent $20 one day, no conversions. The next morning, for about a span of 3 hours, I was getting +200% ROI. I was getting a conversion every 10 minutes or so. I was so happy!

I kept everything the same to continue collecting data. Same bid on Popads, same everything. As mentioned, after those 3 hours everything stopped. I still haven't received a conversion and it has been over 24 hours and 30$ spend

What could cause that burst of conversions? I've been combing through my Voluum data and I cannot find what sticks out.

compare the time of click (when user clicks through on your LP) and time of postback, some offers have a huge delay, sometimes (rarely) up to several days,

so check if there is a big discrepancy in the postback time vs click time and post back with your findings

Just looked right now, and they are all consistent. Within 6 minutes of the user clicking. Im just confused why it could be so steady one moment and then complete shit the whole next day.

Hello xesturgy!

I had this problem before with Popads. What can I say: sometimes offers gives different results in different hours. It's a part of game. Ask your AM about this offer - May be they have not real-time post back or technical problems. If not, you can increase your BID a little bit for this hours when I're not receiving any conversions. Because sometimes I have a situation when people're running same campaigns with me and they have "Hours targeting" and higher bid. Therefore when their campaigns start, my ROI is shit because they receive better quality traffic. If it won't help you just set up a Hours targeting. I have a lot of campaigns with this targeting option.

Good luck!

Yeah that's pretty normal.

Once you get enough data you will be able to see the whole picture ie. the "hot hours" that are working the best for the offer. The more data you get, the better.

In general the traffic spikes are in the evening hours when people are back from work or chilling on the couch/in bed with their mobile phones. As you may know most of the traffic on PopAds is coming from adult sites (check your Category report :-), so that's one of the reasons as well.

So once you collet the data for the whole 24 hours and more days you will start seeing some patterns and as @mrbraun says, maybe it will be good idea to start day parting/hour targeting to squeeze out the most of the profits.

There is one more possible reason for this that I'm seeing pretty often, sudden bursts of conversions can be caused by a new placement or a placement that you only get traffic from for a short while. This happens in case of higher bid placements when a bidder runs out of funds for example and the traffic becomes available for a short while. Can you check placement info and see whether you were getting more traffic from certain placements for the time the conversions were coming in and if the traffic went down a lot when it stopped?

The exactly same just happened to me but on very shorter period of time (popads too and clickdealer network - but 2 different offers, between 2 and 3$/conversion)

I launched a campaign at 2.30pm my time, and had 9 conversions between 2.30 and 3pm, giving a 109% ROI (you can guess i was pretty happy).
Next hour, had a nice 0 conversion, same amount of traffic, same everything, just 0 conversion...
I upped my bid a lot the next hour, and conversions were back but not compensating at all the bid increase.

I thought it could be :
- offers being capped : but rechecked the offers, and no capping written + the fact that the next hours i was getting back conversions after bid increase let me think that is not the issue.
- postback issue : All the postbacks of conversions are within the 10 mins range after visit, so i don't think the problem can be this
- offer hosting down : I thought hosting of offers could be down for some reasons, but checked and no problem + the two offers are two different companies and both had the same results.
- issue with clickdealer servers : might be, will have to check with my am tomorrow (not working on Sunday)
- outbidded : yes that's the main reason i can see, someone outbidded me on some same offers on that next hour. But that would still surprise me a lot that it results it absolutely no conversions ...
- placement as matuloo wrote above : the first hour no placement had more than 2 conversions, so i don't think this is it
- same user converting again and again : checked the IPs, and only 3 or 4 IP had 2 conversions, all the rest were unique

It just seems incredible to me, it s pretty hard to believe !

Which network is running that offer for you xesturgy ?

I think you are correct - I got lucky with the traffic source by receiving some killer placements.

Then my luck ended soon thereafter.

Rockcorp - this is odd, because I was also on Clickdealer.

Hmm

your placements look normal, i don't think it was the problem there !

i ll be testing offers from another different network for next 24h and i ll update if i find out something

Just to explain what I had in mind in a more detailed way : these don't have to be totally new placements, you could already be getting traffic from them and it will continue, BUT on a lower level. Simply imagine someone who is running VERY WELL optimized campaign and they simply stop buying the traffic for a while from whatever reason, so this good traffic becomes available for a while and you receive it.

It's possible to test this, take the placements that converted for you, create a whitelist campaign and target just those and try to bid higher and see if you reach better CVR.
