Hey everyone, i was just about to start applying for networks and saw that it is recommended to have a basic website for your company. I used Namecheap to purchase a domain and created a account on Rackspace cloud files. When i start creating landing pages i will connect a different domain to a server but this one is just for my basic website. I was able to get to where i type in the HTTP link in the address bar and have the website show, but now how do i change the CNAME? Do i need NSOne or the Rackspace cloud CDN to be able to do this? I only have the Rackspace Cloud Files right now. This is all very new to me so i appreciate all the help from everyone!
Hey Chris.
So you are trying to point your CDN to your own domain name? Is that correct?
You usually setup CNAME on your domain registrar side.
So if you bought your domain at GoDaddy for example you have to do it there.
They definitely should have a tutorial on that one, but try to give us some more detailed information and we can figure it out together.
If you want to proceed yourself, it should work in the following way:
You take that long generated URL from your Rackspace Cloud Files.
Then you go to your domain registrar page and add a new CNAME to your domain (look for Manage DNS, Edit DNS or something like that)
In the host value you enter your Rackspace CDN URL without "http://" and save it.
Wait up to 1 hour for DNS to propagate and your domain should be pointed to the CDN.
Thanks for the help! I ended up getting the basic website going. There is a really good tutorial in the newbie zone section but since I didn't end up going with nsone the steps threw me off a little bit.
Glad to hear that your problem is successfully solved now!
