How to Track Devices Costs in Voluum?

Hey,

If I can't track costs from my traffic source Is it better to create 3 campaigns per country for each device (so if I target 3 countries its 9 campaigns..)
or just one campaign and then track exact costs in spreadsheet?

In Voluum we can't update costs based on device, so the only way to get accurate data is 3 campaigns per country which is a bit too much work I think..

but also pretty comfortable to see which device is outperforming and insight.. how you guys do it?

What traffic source are you using? many traffic sources will just charge a single CPM for all impressions you get, at which point all you need to differentiate device performance is the EPC (earning per click) on each device, which you can view in Voluum.

As Caurmen pointed out, with sources that do not offer smart bidding and only use simple flat CPM bidding, it should be easier to calculate this. But once we enter smart CPM bidding it can become a mess.

On top of that, and that's what's probably causing you a bigger problem, the CTR is usually very different on smartphones compared to desktop or tablets. That's why it is pretty much a must to make separate campaigns for separate devices.

3 campaigns per GEO is nothing man, I have dozens of campaigns in some ... don't look for shortcuts that will come back to bite you in the ass

Not to hijack this thread but curious as to what would require you to break campaigns down to have dozens in a single geo?

Is it just targeting different settings so that you maximize your earnings for that offer/geo or targeting different offers?

Plenty of stuff actually.

Let me name just the most frequent reasons :

- Android vs iOS
- Tablet vs Phone vs Desktop
- Different verticals that require different funnels
- wifi vs carrier
...

In some cases I target large SPOTS in separate campaings - for example those mega adult tubes, in some cases it's on a site level. And we are still on one source and I'm using multiple at all times .... it adds up

@matuloo - Thanks for the reply.

Yes, couldn't agree with Matuloo more here.

If the source DOES charge differently on different devices, definitely go for the "many, many campaigns" option. It's not that much of a headache once you get used to it.

Some people have made a lot of money targeting far more micro-level than that - hundreds of individually-targeted campaigns differentiated by three or four separate targeting options can add up.
