Questions before beginning
Hi All
I have a few questions - I have been browsing and looking on affiliate forums now for the past month and I think I'm finally starting to understand things better. I would like someone to sanity check my understanding.
So mobile campaigns seem to be very hot and is probably the best way to go.. My understanding is that:
Traffic Source -> Tracker -> Landing Page -> Offer Link
1. Purchase a domain - this can be any domain along as it is along the mobile line?
2. Purchase Hosting with CDN to ensure performance is optimal
3. Choose a offer with a affiliate
4. Create or find a landing page customised around the offer (picking a vertical) being promoted and upload to host (ensure landing page links with offer)
5. Create banners relating to the offer
6. Go to traffic source and upload required banners relating to offer and enter link to tracker
7. Campaign goes live
So to make things easy I can spy on campaigns which are doing the best using AdPlexity and rip those landing pages and buttons (along with the verticals they are using) - analysing the times the campaign is most active and the countries and platforms etc?
Can someone clarify if I am overlooking something here? I don't see how you could go wrong with a good spy tool using the tracks others have already made? (No need to reinvent the wheel right)?
I am a beginner so forgive me if anything seems obvious!
Thanks
Sam

Yes, you got this part right

I assume you want this to host your landing pages. In such case, yes, pick something that would suit as much themes as possible. In case you want a custom domain for tracking, it doesn't matter much and you can pick pretty much anything like mtrckdmn.com ...

You need either regular hosting (VPS or dedicated) or a CDN or you can use both. In case you don't need any server side scripts (php for example) you can use just a CDN. For more advanced LPs with server side scriptage, you need regular hosting.

Yup, signup for 2 or 3 affiliate networks and as for offers that they recommend to newbies.

It's better to find/rip a few LPs in the beginning and tweak them a bit. You can create your own once you know what you are doing.

You can rip these again and modify or create your own.

Yup, you need to setup the campaign at the tracker first, make sure you understand how tracking works. Don't forget to setup postbacks.

Yes, spying can help you a lot and it's recommended to any new affiliate.

You never know 100% what campaign you are copying, it could be a loosing one. You don't know much about the targeting used at the source - are they buying all traffic, or just android, or just a specific carrier, specific placements etc ... there are too many variables. Spying should be used as inspiration, not like a full path to success. All it takes for the competition to beat you is a bit higher payout and you can copy all you want but you will loose on it. They can also be cloaking, so the spytool might be showing you a wrong funnel.
Good luck on your AM journey

Hello!
I can only speak on the account of tracking. If you're looking to start out with tracking, or simply just testing it out, while not spending money, then I can recommend using Adsbridge. We offer a free trial, and can allow you to test any functions you like (just shoot us a message, and we'll hook you up). Our platform is also integrated with many partners. We also offer a landing page creator for campaigns
Good luck in your journey, and send me any questions you might have on tracking!
-Alex
