Setting Bids Traffic Sources - Adult traffic

Hi all!

We have been buying some mobile traffic in Exoclick and PlugRush.

We usually bid the lowest minimum price when launch a campaign. Then we study the Max CPM based on results, or cut the offers based on statiscal significance.

Now we are worried thinking about the position of our banners for each visitor. For new visitors, obviously first banners impressions is more quality than impression number 10, as the visitor had seen dozens of banners, but hasn't convert in a offer, so the probability is lower.

That means that the result (CVR) of the campaign could vary between the position of my ads for each user, and low bids could mean cut offers because a low CVR, but bidding higher we could get better CVR and in fact a profitable campaign.

My questions is:

- How do you used to proceed? Bidding high for some time, and the bidding low in case you don't get expected ROI? In the higher positions the CVR will be better but the cost will be also higher.

- Is it some way we could analyze some indicators to create some fix rules to proceed?

Thanks!

Carlos

Hello Carlos,

I'm using both approaches, sometimes I start by bidding low and wait for the results. If the volume is slow, I raise the bid and see what happens. My tests have shown that the best results are achieved when you are around the 3rd in the row, sometimes its 4th, sometimes 2nd. Usually, I do not try to be the highest bidder. It is true that higher position usually means better CVR with adult traffic, but there is no need to bid more than everyone else and fight for the top spot - unless you have a perfect funnel and you want to take all the traffic.

Higher bid also means higher banner CTR very often, so it can actually result in cheaper clicks too.

As a general advice - do not run for the top bid. Test several bid levels and find where you are getting the best cvr without paying too much.

Thank you again Matulo!

On the other hand... Have you ever had an account with PlugRush?

Someone recommends me it, so I open an account and put some funds.

Then I started building some Mobile Carrier campaign, and realize it doesn't allow me to select carrier!!!

OI read to kind of solutions:

1-. Whitelist IP ranges of the carrier: Ok, it looks a good solution but... Where the hell can I get the IP range per country/carrier ??!!

2-. Get best IPs from Exoclick (where I have some campaigns running) and add them as a whitelist: Another good solution but.... Which is the best way to get the IPs from Exoclick? It doesn't has a report, and I can't find them on Voluum...

Best regards,

Carlos

Since matuloo is off attending an event, I'll take a stab at your question.

Targeting by IP is actually better for conversion rates than targeting by carrier name. Plugrush + IP targeting can be a very lucrative combo (based on personal experience).

1-. Whitelist IP ranges of the carrier: Ok, it looks a good solution but... Where the hell can I get the IP range per country/carrier ??!!
1)Go here - replacing the last 2 letters with the 2-letter code representing your target geo:

http://ipinfo.io/countries/ar

2)Click into EACH ASN that has your carrier's name, scroll down to "IP Address Blocks", and copy all the IP blocks.

3)Create a new IP list in Plugrush. You can paste all the IP blocks into a text file and upload it, or paste it into a field. Note: If you ever need to upload IP blocks to sources that don't accept CIDR format, you can do bulk converts into IP ranges here: https://www.cidrcalculator.com/ipv4/...ip-range-bulk/.

2-. Get best IPs from Exoclick (where I have some campaigns running) and add them as a whitelist: Another good solution but.... Which is the best way to get the IPs from Exoclick? It doesn't has a report, and I can't find them on Voluum...
Voluum -> highlight your campaign and go to "Reports":

Click on IP and voila!

Hope that helps!

Amy

Hello, somehow I missed this but looks like Amy took good care of you

We are buying from plugrush all the time too, not huge volumes as it can get hard to optimize it with all the crap placements they accept, but it's still one usable source that you should not overlook.

And how do you deal with such networks as Exoclick where you can't see your bidding number in the queue (opposed to Plugrush for example)?

^ +1 I am having the same problem. Using Exoclick's view top CPM tool doesn't seem to work for me.

What's wrong with that?

With networks that don't show the bid position, you can either go to the site directly and re-load until you see your banner - obviously you need to emulate the GEO and device you are targeting.

Or you can raise the bid step by step and watch for a sudden spike in traffic - that's when you hit #1 position.

In many cases, you won't know exactly where you are, but you can still make a qualified guess - the more experience you will get, the better you will be at this.

When working with the estimate tool at exo, keep in mind that there are people bidding really high for some targeting, especially for carrier traffic. It's pretty normal to see bids like $1-$2 or even higher, but they are all using smart CPM so it's not like they are really paying this - they pay what the next competitor is bidding. I think some of these are set by exo directly, in order to secure this traffic for themselves or their best partners.

Also make sure that you change the targeting, when working with the estimation tool, even changing the browser can make a large difference.
