Native Ads Spying (7)

Native Ads Spying

Hey guys,

Getting into Native ads, launching my first campaign today and spying to find 2 more. I have a question for those of you who are in the trenches with Native.

I'm running on Revcontent and am familiar with their rules about non compliant lander (i.e - no fake comments)

I've been going through spy tools looking through Revcontent network specific ads, and all I keep seeing non compliant advertorial landers that contains fake comments everywhere (which goes against their rules).

The question I have is that how is Revcontent allowing all these non compliant landers to run rampant out there? The only logical conclusion in my mind is that they're cloaking or Revcontent is somehow allowing these to go through and not enforcing.

So I guess these are the questions I have in mind that I would love to get some opinions on
1) Are majority of people running native cloaking?
2) Are networks like Revcontent turning a blind eye to these landers and the fact that people are cloaking?
3) Is it an automatic ban if you get caught cloaking? Or are these affiliates getting a slap on the wrist and that's why they continue to cloak?
4) Will I eventually have to get into cloaking if I want to make some real money with Native?

Just trying to understand the landscape a bit better.

I've spent a lot of time and money on Rev over the last few months so I can answer some your questions...

Yes, plenty are cloaking.

But they are getting caught and then banned.

Once banned I believe you will have a lot of problems getting back on, they have been hit with some cc fraud and as such new accounts are being asked for photo ID to match banking card details.

Compliance is inconsistent and what one reviewer accepts another rejects. Your AM cannot approve camps - it all goes thru a central team.

Compliance rules also change a lot for example celeb images in ads were allowed a few months ago (except for US) now they are not allowed globally. They appear to have just started to enforce ad types too, list a VSL as an article and they will reject. So it's a moving target!

It's not neccasrily the case that all comments are banned. They won't accept comments that are scripted with dynamic time/dates, just make them look genuine!

Most importantly not all geos have compliance rules enforced so strictly. Tier 1 English speaking then yep your gonna have to be patient and learn what you can and can't do.

Go foreign language or other geos and you will find compliance is much more easy going.

I'd also say that I nor others I have spoken to have had retro reviews.

Hope that helps...

Hey @clickwork7 that definitely helps.

Yeah I'd rather avoid cloaking since I'm looking to develop solid long term campaigns.

Going to stick with it and go the whitehat route. What you said about non scripted comments helps a lot. Going to give it a shot in a non USA geo and see what happens. I appreciate you taking the time.

Im going to take a shot at native for the first time too, What vertical you going with?

Are you just going to go with advertorial landers or you gonna put up a whole site with multiple articles behind it?

Usually approvals come in same day if not the following. Your AM can chase up compliance but they can't directly approve for you.
