What's up with advertisers putting this much restrictions?

I see the following restrictions on a iphone sweepstake offer:

No Advertorials
No Fake articles
No using of brand names

Wording may NOT contain any promise of a prize
Wording shall use correct spelling and grammar
Wording may NOT be specifically misleading (e.g. competition ends tomorrow).
We suggest vague phrases like “comepition ends soon” or “only few prizes left”

Creatives should match the Landing page (e.g. prize, it is NOT acceptable to announce prizes that we do not have on our Landing pages).
All creatives upon approval

- No SMS traffic
- No incentivized traffic
How stringent is the punishment for violating these rules? (given that we are referring to the UK here)

Generally, violation of advertiser rules may result in non-payment of affiliate commissions.

But if you're running through an affiliate network (i.e. not running direct with the advertiser), then it would be more important to check with your affiliate manager on what THEIR requirements are, because they'll be the ones that will be paying you.

Your AM will let you know which advertisers are more strict than others when it comes to following certain rules. Often I'd see an offer description with a long list of rules (like the example you gave) but when I asked my AM, they would tell me to just go ahead and run aggressive anyway.

In that case, even if I were to "get caught" by the advertiser, the affiliate network would still be obligated to pay me regardless of whether the advertiser will pay for the leads I generate - at least in theory anyway. (This is one reason why retaining conversation history of skype chats is important. )

So yeah - I would definitely suggest to check with your AM on a case-by-case, offer-by-offer basis.
