Signing up for Affiliate Networks and Traffic Sources

I just joined STM and had some questions about joining Affiliate Networks and Traffic sources, when signing up do I register as an Advertiser or a Publisher? Some sites give the option to signup as an Affiliate which I would choose, but most sites that I have looked at only give two options, signing up as either an Advertiser or Publisher ( I assume I would signup as an Advertiser since I don't have a site or app to host/place ads - "publisher")

2) When signing up they usually ask for a TAX ID/ or an SSN, I am Canadian and I don't have a business so I don't have an SSN or TAX ID( I plan on registering for a business once I start making money but not now since I am just in the learning curve so I will signup as an Individual/sole proprietor instead of a corporation) So I was wondering what should I input in this field? I was thinking my SIN number (basically the SSN number, but for Canadians).

Publisher is the one who has traffic. Advertiser is the one who wants traffic.

So on a traffic network, publishers are the owners of sites and advertisers are those who are buying traffic from them.

In the case of an affiliate network, the principle is the same, advertisers are those who want the traffic and publishers bring it. But since you already bought the traffic in a traffic network, you are now becoming the publisher.

So just to be clear: When signing up for Traffic sources I sign up as an Advertiser, and for an Affiliate Network I sign up as a publisher?

and any ideas for my 2nd question? Im not sure If my SIN number is acceptable for the payment information

Yes : When signing up for Traffic sources I sign up as an Advertiser, and for an Affiliate Network I sign up as a publisher.

As for the second question, I know nothing about the Canadian system, so can't really help you, sorry.
