How can I take advantage of current events traffic?

I have seen free iPhones and stuff

I have seen the old polls that people use to use redirecting to an email submit

But how do the pros do it? How do I find a current event and make some profits?

Does the poll method still work? I would think that the quality is terrible on that.

The iPhone stuff is not related to current events really. It works ALL THE TIME.

How to take advantage of current events? Here is an idea - the new iPhone is out in ~ a week. Maybe some poll on "The new iPhone is OUT!! Would you buy it? What color?".

Very basic idea, but this is how you can take advantage of current event.

You can also take advantage of other current events like the Paralympics is starting (more niche like but still), Pokemon go craze (play on the battery life angle perhaps).

There are current events you can try and use to your advantage all the time. Keep your eyes and mind open.

A good strategy to use "events" is actually to follow the trends and tweak your campaigns by using them. One of the best tools to get inspiration is the Google trends : https://www.google.com/trends/

Finding trends and events is easy but then what? And what do I promote?

What are some basic campaign types for this? Being creative is my challenge here.

The most used strategy is to use trends in angles to get the attention of the user and make them believe it's a temporary offer that is hot RIGHT NOW. Or you can use the trend to sell related stuff.

Take the USA election for example, it's a huge trend now and you can actually find stuff that would sell better now when the elections are around the cornder - flags, items to show support for candidates ...
OR you can use the trend and sell something totally unrelated - make a poll and ask the users who do they think will win and use an iphone sweep offer as a reward for their time.

Just an idea, but it doesnt HAVE to be about iPhones. You can use current events as angles in other niches as well.

"Why wait for black Friday? sign up today to be with a chance to get some amazing deals with X"

Just try to get out of the box a little :-)
