The other night I was at a friends 18th birthday and all was usual, until I got into a chat with her drunken dad while he sucked a cigarette behind the wall so his wife couldn't see. Now the place was pretty big and in a pretty well off area so I asked what he did for a living and he replied he was a salesmen and after chatting about what he did we moved onto what I did and he was pretty surprised.
Anyway, he came out and said that the reason he has been successful in the sales business for over 25 years now and done so well at is this one tip....
"You know, *cough cough* f**k me this ciggie is tough shit what you boys on these days, as a salesmen I never want to SELL a product to someone. A good salesmen LISTENS to people first, then provides them with an answer to there problem, as if nothing was even sold.
So I sat there thinking to myself, f**k his 100% right, and although I had somewhat been doing this, it only came to my realization that this is how we should all be marketing.
Forget the days of hardcore salesmen shit, and find the traffic and provide the answer.
This goes hand in hand with what Jordan said in a previous thread about the mini business ideas from importing shit from alibaba or creating your own little niche product.
Because thats it, find the people begging for help, give them the help, the product then sells itself.
Most of you will probably already do this or know this, but it just didnt sit into my head until he told me and really opened my eyes to a newer approach to my campaigns.
Ya man, everything starts with the traffic or market. Typically when you do larger buys, you find the traffic and a way to monetize it. Good sales seems nothing like sales
ya no shit so women want to lose weight so I push diet rebills, they want a nice skin, etc, hey men want a bigger penis, a hot girlfriend with no effort.
We already are providing what people want. These products don't always deliver, but, that's not our part of the business. We're marketers, we bring certain things to the attention of the consumer. We don't force people to buy shit.
good shit maynzie! you're becoming one of my favorite posters.
in the old days when I pushed a lot of registry cleaners, my all time best performing LP was one where it asked them what is wrong with their computer... with checkboxes for "slow" "popups" "frequent crashes" and then it just recommended the correct offer on the thank you page. Totally in line with what you are saying here. Listen for the problem they have, then recommend the solution to them. For some reason it never occurred to me to try that strategy in every market, so thanks!
Yep! Find people with a problem searching for it online, and offer a solution.
So how do you find them?

Use this google suggest scraper, and search for "how to stop", "ged rid off", etc.
http://ubersuggest.org/
Click on the keywords to expand
Click on the + to save
Then download and pop into adwords to estimate traffic.
If there is interest I can do a quick video to show you my end to end process for this, including the scraper Ive got.
......tijn FTW!
yes to quick video!
Great point maynzie!
There is an old copywriting/marketing phrase that goes right along with what you are saying, "Seek out and join the conversation that is already going on in your prospect's head.". Like you have been saying lately in other posts, keep it simple. Most people just try too damn hard. You can't convince anyone to buy anything, but you can help them realize that THEY are making a good decision.
I gotta say that, i have no regrets and have done well for myself, but I sure wish I had your mindset when I was your age! When I was 19 and at a party, all I would have been thinking about would have been getting wasted...But you actually sought out and took away something meaningful by asking questions of someone you knew you could learn something from. (Sure, maybe you got wasted afterwards, but that's not important right now...) Good on ya, mate!!
Glad no one made any comments yet about the search terms I selected. Your all to polite.

and google traffic estimator gives decent volume!!

Tijn,
Your search string made me think of the line from Caddyshack where Mrs. Smails says, "Elihu, will you come loofah my stretch marks?"
what kind of man has stretch marks on their ass and better yet how would they notice it?
no idea
but
a quick search on google with the "discussion filter" throws up a bunch of people with this problem, crying out for a solution.

For example - if you looked like this:

You would do anything!
Heres one of the topics:
http://www.skincaretalk.com/scars-st...tch-marks.html
Read it. Feel the pain of these people. Look at the language they use.
Anyway - this was just a random example. But a great way of understanding a potential market.
^^^^oh shit son!
This is a list of keywords to run through ubersuggest.... seems to help us out:
how to, where, create, learn, make, try, beginner, start, buy, stop, try, repair, fix, discount, price, review, do it yourself, how much, save, symptom, disorder, overcome, afraid to, fear of, treatment
Some very generic, but you get some interesting results. The idea is to combine them like "how to fix...", or "how much to fix".
Thats just one way anyway.
That tool is tough!
Thanks Tijn!
holy shit.
wait until you see the scraper i build
Read the book: "You Can't Teach A Kid To Ride A Bike At A Seminar"
Along the same exact lines as OP's post.
