Yup, custom domain is what you need and it was a good decision to use one.

There were some problems with "safe browsing tools" that flagged the default Voluum URL's and affiliates experienced loss of traffic. Custom domain should solve this more or less.

Using a custom domain will slow your load speeds significantly which is crucial in mobile

Not sure what tests this statement is based on, but I'm always using custom tracking domain and I don't have problems getting very fast loading speeds. Obviously there is one more DNS lookup involved when using a custom domain, but the effect is so low that it shouldn't really affect campaign performance. I've run several speed tests and a couple MS less or more didn't have any impact on CVR.
