What's your strategy for blacklisting widgets in Revcontent? (8)

What's your strategy for blacklisting widgets in Revcontent?

THIS IS SPECIFICALLY FOR REVCONTENT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A BID BY WIDGET FUNCTIONALLITY.

Hi,

I know that if widget has spent x2 the payout with 0 conversions I should cut it.

And I know that if widget has a really high or really low ctr on the lander with 0 conversions I should cut it too.

But what about the widgets that have spent a decent amount for example x5 the payout and they've got some sales, but they're not profitable - what should I do with those?

For what loss per widget should I wait for before cutting a widget?

thanks

are you running a WL campaign alongside that BL one?

Don't forget while u can't bid @ widget level you can at adv. target level.

Check your tracker to see what targets these placements fall in, generally you'll find yourself dialling in at ad target level within your WL.

Now you should be able to see if the placements in question follow the trend for that target group or whether you need to cut.

(In the past I have tried running multiple WLs with different bids ie. High/low but I found as I reduced to bids on these poorer placements to chase the green the volume just fell away to make the maintenance time not worthwhile).

Hope that make sense and helps

Thanks, should I cut widgets with a certain loss though?

I don't work to a hard and fast, mathematically calculated statistically significant figure to cut on this basis.

I'd make a judgement call based on:

- do you have much mileage left in lander/offer/creative testing/pay bump
- how far in the red is the placement?
- assuming if mobile you have considered performance by OS
- what's the difference in the EPV of this placement to others in the same adv. target

Yeah that's basically what I'm doing right now. Looking for a bit more mathematical way.

If you have some formation in math you can try calculating the wining chances with the negative binomial distribution. just set as winning rate the number of conversions you need to go profitable.

to add to this lets say you have X% of blacklisted widgets from a topic or maybe no ROI or low LP CTR, should you turn off the topic?

I cut after 1-2 payouts when I have a proven funnel.

Your creatives have a huge impact on the profitability of the placements.

Widgets that are currently close to break even can bring in a nice profit if you find creatives that work well with the placement.

As well, if you have some placements that are converting but are not profitable, you can try running them in an interest campaign and target only profitable interests.
