When I set up a new campaign is it best to choose the automatic option or the manual option. If I select the manual option how do I determine the best bid amount?
Automatic bidding will almost always cost you more than needed. Some networks will show you the average bid, some will even show you estimated position based on the bid, but pretty often, you will not see anything at all.
Whatever the case, the bid amount will need to be tested, you need to find the sweet spot for every campaign you run. You need to find a good balance between the bid, CTR and conversion rate. These values are specific to any campaign and you need to figure it out on your own.
With a bit of experience, you will learn what kinda bids to start with on what network... so it's just a matter of running some campaigns and analyzing the results.
Setting up a campaign with manual bid makes sense only when you definitely know that there are big traffic volumes on the spot, and if you setup the minimum bid, you will still get reasonable amount of impressions. Otherwise it's better to choose automatic options( it's a smart CPM on TrafficHunt).
If you choose manual CPM, start with minimum bid and see how many impressions you get. If you need more, just rise your CPM bid gradually till you get enough traffic.
Auto bid: gonna cost ya initially tends to bid high early on.
Manual bid: safer, but the ad set budgeting rules will make it difficult to create low spend scenarios.
Ideal: create ad sets with auto bid to avoid upload errors due to budget rules, have ad set budgets as whatever you wanted, keep paused, change to manual bid afterward and see how you go. I use auto when starting testing in a new area to see what the CPMs are like. Over time and with pixel data, auto bidding can be pretty solid.
