How can I get the most out of a Follow Along? + What are the best practices?

Hey all! I'm at the point where I'm ready to start cranking out and really testing campaigns. I'm a beginner and I want to do a follow along so I'm wondering, what are the best practices for a follow along? What kind of things should I include (and not include?). For context, I'm running mobile email submits and installs. I want to make sure that I provide enough useful information so that it's easier for others to help me as well as being easier to follow along and learn from for other newbies like myself. I think I know to be realistic and not make it about "getting XX,XXX a day in 2 months" or something but what are some of the less obvious mistakes that I should avoid or things that aren't usually done that should be?

Heya!

I think the most important bit when starting a follow along as a newbie is for you to be fully transparent if you want to properly learn. Being transparent will get you actionable advice as opposed to just generic AM "wisdomries". Showing everything you're doing will, most definitely, help you learn much faster.

You should also be very realistic, as you mentioned - use the follow along purely as a learning experience. Once you get the grasp of things, move on to running and working on your own stuff, revealing less and so on.

Don't dig into testing any one offer for too long and trying to optimise the traffic sources, instead, focus on testing as many offers as you can. Campaigns in AM don't last for very long and you want to be as efficient as possible.

And last but not least, I'll avoid the mega-cliche "take action" advice and say this instead: Do not quit. Get angry, even - failures should push you to work even harder instead of making you feel all sad, teary and depressed. Personally, I find this to be a far better approach.

Agree with all that shishev mentioned and let me add one more thing from the perspective of a mod who tries to follow as many follow-alongs as possible.

Try not to clutter your follow along too much, if you post a question, wait for an answer and don't post 5 more questions right after the original one. Try to stay organized and put all the info at once into one post, then make another post once you get an answer or you want to post an update - more than 1 update per day is not really needed. If you post too much, it's extremely hard to follow it without loosing track.

Thanks a bunch! I'll definitely keep things transparent then. That's a good way to approach things. The money will come eventually so being private about things now probably doesn't make much sense. After all, what secrets does a newbie have to hide anyway haha. And I'll also make sure to not post too frequently for sure. I've read a lot of the follow alongs and they can get PRETTY long and intense with multiple updates in one day. I'll try to focus more on testing as many offers as possible instead of trying to optimize a small handful as much as possible then. I assume the optimizing should come when you find a winner huh? Thanks you both for helping me!

Also out of curiosity, what makes up a campaign? Is it similar offers sharing the same creatives? One offer with multiple angles/landers? My current impression is that it has pretty broad usage.

Optimization has 2 parts so to speak - first you need to find a winning offer/lp/banner combo out of those that you test initially. The next phase is to maximize the results of the winning combination by optimizing at the traffic source level. But these 2 parts have an overlap and some things can be done simultaneously - for example bot placements or simply very poor placements can be cut pretty soon and you don't need to wait for a winning funnel.

You are right, the usage of the term campaign doesnt have a simple definition. For me a campaign is : 1 campaign at the traffic source linked to 1 campaign in the tracker, with multiple banners/lps and offers that I'm split testing.

The more data the better. Data by lp, ad,placement, browver, browser version, connection type,os,device, geo, region, isp will ALL help if you need help us help you optimize.

Similarly, screenshots of ads and lps with data will help us help you do better copywriting for more split tests.

Most people then stop posting once theyre profitable
