Affiliate Marketing in low cost countries (India, Pakistan, Indonesia etc.) (14)

Hello,

I'm thinking about launching campaigns in low cost countries because of low cpc.
Has anyone tried to do AM in India or Indonesia for exemple?
Any affiliate network you would recommend there? And for what kind of offers?

Pretty much any affiliate network has offers for these GEOs by now. New affiliates like to start with these GEOs because of the lower prices of traffic, and the simple conversions flow of many offers. It's true that the situation changed quite a bit during the last year or two and the prices for traffic are nowhere as low as they used to be, but the opportunity is still there.

First of all, you need to always remember that Media Buying is all about the balance between your costs and revenues. This means that - when selecting a segment (country + carrier + operating system) to work in - you need to focus not only on the cost of traffic, but the well-performing segments. Don't forget that, even inside the same country, the RPMs for different carriers can differ drastically. Don't hesitate and ask your AM's advice on the affiliate network, as it can be quite useful!

What should you consider when selecting the segment? The competition for the traffic: for instance, India can be quite competitive, which means that - in order to get high-quality traffic - you'll need to pay more.

Why does this happen? Because some countries become really popular and known in the business as being good to make money on. What I recommend is for you to start with the countries where you've got decent volumes and not such a fierce competition: Indonesia, Kenya, and Ecuador can be great GEOS to explore!

In order to give you more precise advice, it's important to know: a) the category of offers you're working with; b) why you wanna work on a CPC basis instead of CPM?

Why do I ask? Because you've mentioned you're planning to work with these countries due to low CPC and I'd like to point that - while working on the CPC model - you really need to be focused on the creatives you use and the banners need to match your product. This is how you make sure users who click on the banner actually want to purchase that specific offer.

India is one of those geos that will continue to elude me - I haven't had much luck with this geo aside from 1-click carrier-billing offers for select carriers (which I'm still running now). This is one of those major geos for which you'll find an abundance of traffic on almost every traffic network you may be buying traffic from.

Indonesia on the other hand I've had lots of success with. There aren't a ton of offers available for this geo but that can be a plus because you'd have fewer offers to go through. Don't be discouraged by the low payouts - conversion rates can be high if you find a good offer. Popads, zeropark and propeller have good traffic volumes. It's also one of the top geos by volume on mediahub (at least that was the case when I was running there last year - you could check whether this is still true by looking at their inventory charts).

As for kinds of offers - I haven't noticed any particular offer type doing considerably better in these particular geos than other offer types. It would also heavily depend on which traffic type you're planning on running with. Not knowing this info I'll refrain from giving recommendations here - I mainly only run pop.

You're on the right track by seeking out low-cost / low-competition geos to test. Try geos in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Lots of gems on these continents.

Tier 2 and 3 markets are where you can really make a lot of money, especially in the bigger markets (population +50 million/country). For example, we are seeing amazing results in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Egypt.

For the affiliates these are potential gold mines as there is not a lot of competition hence traffic is cheap, in a country like e.g. Saudi Arabia a lot of people have money and are bored out of their minds = huge amount of time surfing, buying, downloading on the net, BIG populations = big opportunity to scale & advertisers are going here more and more to expand their business geographically (=easy to grow and build value).

So its now surprise when I say we, Kimia, work those geos and many more,xD ... in the "lower cost" and less saturated markets.

As some colleagues have also suggested, your AM will most likely indicate other interesting markets and specially make sure that those low costs markets are stable. Some have a tendency to have fluctuations due to local socio-economic issues or, as these markets start coming on the radar, local industry regulations start to appear.

So, chat with your AM and get the inside info to ride the wave as long as you can.

When installs (360 security etc...) had a very good convert, a lot of people run these GEOs. As for me with these geos (IN, ID, TH etc...) I got xxx xxx profit, but now it's too hard to work with installs.

I totally agree with Amy. As for me Right now I have very good results with 1click offers and 3G traffic. Why not WiFi? Because there are a lot of traffic, a lot of shit traffic, but there are little good offers, so you can't achieve a very good ROI now on WiFi without a big budget and long tests. So the best way - to run 1click offers (Anti-Viruses, Adult etc) and convert them.

A little tip: Vodafone (IN) can give you 300% ROI now with 1click offers. A lot of networks have offers for that (Kimia too, I like you ),
