How much is fold in mobile important for conversion?

Hello everybody,
Reading the guides about creating landing pages for mobile I noticed that it is suggested to make the CTA button appear above the fold.
I would like to know, in your experience is this really important for conversion?

I am asking this question because I have realized that it is hard to make it above the fold because sometimes a part of needed text must be removed and moreover looking at the creatives in spy tools they too tend to be under the fold.

This is something you'd have to test. I tested below and above the fold and there wasn't any significant difference.

This depends on the type of LP a lot, in case of a short LP with clear message, if you put CTA below fold you will literally kill the campaign.

In case of an advertorial or a fake blog etc ... the importance is going down because people will naturally scroll down to see the rest of the text.

Simply put : The more impulse decision you need the user to make, the more important it is to have the CTA visible without scrolling down.

Just look at any spy tool results and you'll see the nearly all the top landing pages have buttons above the fold. Of course you can test this, but why test something that seems so evident before you test more important variables. Leave above the fold testing until you are further down the road.

Ok, above the fold seems to win but I need some space for text in order to explain the benefits and if I don't go below the fold is I must either reduce too much the font or delete some needed text. What do you suggest? Reduce the font (and maybe image size) although the page maybe ugly and text too small?

By the way, Caurmen has made a great guide about making the landing page fit in a mobile screen even when you rotate it. Similar question, is it important for conversion if page doesn't adapt to rotated mobile screen?

Less text. If you're running mobile you don't need much text at all to get conversions.

In case you really need the long ad copy, split it up into 2 pages and end the first page with a CTA but add some more text below it so the surfers see the copy continues and they can scroll down if interested. Obviously, you would need another CTA at the end of the text.

Ok thanks guys! What about the importance for conversion of making page fit in the screen when you rotate it? I'm asking this because in my ignorance I didn't think that an under the fold CTA button could be harmful so I want to be sure

There's another benefit to splitting long copy up into multiple pages, incidentally - it means you can more easily improve it.

If you've got a long sales page split up into 6 pages, and you always lose visitors at Page 3, you've got a lot more idea what's going on than if you're just using one whacking great page and your CVR's just not where it should be.
