Initial Testing Budgets (6)

Initial Testing Budgets

I have read that to test out an offer initially I should spend 8x payout as a rule of thumb.

My question is if I have 5 landers, should I wait for 8x payout for each of the landers or 8x payout for all 5 combined?

Thats a good rule of thumb for offers with high payouts. For offers with low payouts (i.e. easy converters such as app install campaigns and sweepstakes), the bare minimum you should test on any campaign IMO is 100$.

Is there any backing for this? It seems way to excessive to spend that much on a low payout offer. If you have a lot of variables to work with then I think it'll make more sense.

There are no set rules for this. The fact that you will be running these LPs side by side will play in your favor a bit, if some of the LPs will fall behind immediately, you don't have to test them for too long and you can cut them earlier.

For the better LPs, you will have to run for longer than 8x the offer payout to really pick the winners. The data will tell you whether you need to continue with testing or not.

$100 can be a good amount as Christoph mentioned, especially for lower payout offers - if you pick really low payout offers, $100 will give you enough space to test plenty of creatives and offers. With higher payouts, $100 will not be enough of course. So again, no set rules to follow.

What is your criteria to say an offer has a low payout? I think it depends on the country's offer, it is not the same $2 in Tier 1 GEOs vs Tier 3 GEOs

Doesn't matter what GEO it is in this case, since we are talking about the initial budget needed and that depends largely on the offer payout. When I say really low payout, I mean offers in the $0.3-$0.5 range, low payouts are around $1 give or take a few cents etc ... You are right that there are GEO differences tho, there are not many offers paying lets say 50 cents in Germany for example, but for Vietnam or Indonesia you will find many like that.
