Launching a teeth whitening eCommerce store!!

Hey all!

Product:
Tomorrow I am launching a teeth whitening store with a friend! We have the physical product and will be shipping it to customers.

Traffic:
We will be getting traffic initially from instagram shoutouts (first one tomorrow) and FB ads (going to target instagram heavily) + remarketing. We will be split testing an article lander vs sending them straight to the product page.

Product sourcing + Store set-up:
We have used Shopify to set the store up. We sourced the product from alibaba + organised our own formula with the company. We then had it tested over here in AUS to ensure it is what we wanted it to be.
Apps:

- klaviyo
- order printer
- privy
- yo
- still adding some more

Where to next:
We will be placing a huge focus on initially getting traffic = sourcing more instagrammers for shoutouts + optimizing and finding profitable ads. We will also be split testing our email campaigns to improve conversions on that end.

Sounds cool - look forward to following. Did you test demand beforehand via Facebook ads? What is your strategy for making claims as to stay compliant with FB and ads in general?

Good question! We know there is demand based off information about our competitors and its quite an evergreen niche! I will dig into compliance issues today

UPDATE:

Started running instagram ads this morning. Have made 2x sales so far with approximately 3 dollars ad spend through the IG ad > landing article > link to product funnel.

Just got a shoutout from a girl with 16,000 followers and decent interaction so will see how that goes.
Money and shoutout organised for a girl with 40,000 followers and good interacton.

Once traffic picks up I will start remarketing.

If anyone has any suggestions or tips let me know This is my second week ever running ads so I have a lot to learn!

UPDATE:

Girl with 40,000 still hasnt posted. Apparently this is pretty common / the girls are normally a pain in the ass to work with.

147 uniques, 7% add to cart, 3.5% reach checkout, 2% purchased
12 email signups
Total adspend: $13 (IG), all linking to an article > product page
Shoutouts: 1x 16K followers with poor interaction
Total sales: $166

We have a number of girls lined up that will be doing shoutouts soon (fingers crossed).
We will be running our first ads that link directly to the product tonight.

Looks good so far, i suggest buying from bigger pages if you really want to make some sales. Spend $100 or so per shout and you'll be raking in the cash. The faster you get sales the faster you can use your data to scale more(facebook lookalike audiences, retargetting, etc).

I have a buddy who is doing 5-10k a day with teeth whitening through instagram shoutouts and facebook retargetting.

Thats incredible! Hopefully I will get there soon :P We have a bunch of bigger shoutouts we are trying to line up at the moment but its difficult as lots of the big influencers have already committed to a brand.

Maybe you're going too big, or too famous. I try to stick to just generic pages that aren't celebs. Random pages like memes, nail/hair videos, etc. These pages don't usually turn down a shoutout

UPDATE:

Everyone I have not been updating because nothing has been happening! One of our paid promoters was not posting as she said she would and it took around 3 weeks for her to finally do it.

We currently have approximately 10x free shoutouts lined up and have finished one paid shoutout. Her follower base was 40k and a $150 shoutout returned $120 in sales = quite poor.

So far we have spent:
$200 = $150 shoutout + sending free pens to smaller users
$80 on instagram ads
Profits: $500

We are going to hit instagram ads harder + introduce remarketing. Should be fun!

Mate I see you are dabbling a bit with the paid IG ads through FB, but would highly recommend focusing on just that for now . This way you can really optimize your creatives and funnel before you commit to paid shoutouts.

Finding:
For our product, we basically scanned the largest instagrammers and saw what was being consistently promoted. Multiple promotions over time on one account normally means they must be doing alright. Teeth whitening is a huge market and the right audience for the type of pages we are getting shoutouts from. I would have preferred to bring a 'purple cow' to the market, but this was good as a learning exercise

Creating:
We went to alibaba, ordered samples from 5x suppliers, tested them all + tested how well they could understand requests. To keep it simple we started off with a blank product and did all the branding ourselves once we got it in our hands. A bit of third party quality control and we were on our way!

UPDATE:

Hey all. Long time no update because we have basically been leaving this to run on its own to work on more exciting projects!

We have a $5 adspend daily using instagram ads and have done the shoutouts mentioned above.
We have found out that for ads, our highest converting ones have the models that we have used in past shoutouts. We have added a buy 1 get 1 free, as well as updated the site. Our site conversion has gone from an avg 2.4 to an avg 3.6%. Basically at the moment, for every view on the site we get, we get about $1 profit.

A major flaw with selling this product paying large instagram influencers is most have already done shoutouts for competing products and hence can't do them for ours. We know this coming in and our main aim was to determine if small account (5-20k) were profitable doing free whitening pens for free shoutouts. Turns out most have been breakeven or slightly positive.
We did one 3hr shoutout using a fellow STM'ers instagram page. He charged $60 and we made $120 in sales from it, however I can't seem to get in contact with him anymore :P

So far the website has made $1278. If anyone would like to see it, chuck me a personal message Any questions please ask! I assume that someone savvy with ads could scale this quite comfortably - if someone is keen to try im keen to chat about it :P

Great work! I have a quick question for you. How are you dispatching the items to customers? 3PL logistics or are you doing the shipments yourself?
