I'm spying using WhatRunsWhere for a mobile app install offer (it's a cleaner app).
When taking a look at the banners... I run into 2 confusions...
1) NONE of them have landing pages
*are they all direct linked?? or is WhatRunsWhere not picking it up??
2) Banners that are displaying things that are unrelated to cleaning app (adult, gaming angles)
*is this just click bait? or is this a method to angle it?
2b) If this is a real method to angle installs, then are they using landing pages to articulate their "unrelated" angle more?
example: Game Banner>>> Landing page says "You need this cleaner to run games fast!!! " >> cleaner install
Try AdPlexity.
WhatRunsWhere was pretty bad a year ago. Unless WRW got major updates, AdPlexity is the go-to spy tool, and the others are generally a waste of money. Not complete waste, but too often a waste.
I'm with manu_adefy, the new generation of spy tools do a better job finding the data that affiliates find useful. For example, I run Mobile Ad Monitor and although we do run into some display banners that are direct linking we encounter a lot that have landing pages and the key is that we don't make you search through each banner to see if there is a landing page. The data is presented in a more accessible way. You'll see this with Adplexity too.
2a. We find that a lot of affiliates are using unrelated banners that get high click through rate but the thing is they are doing this intentionally because of the types of landing pages they are running. They might have an ad for FREE TIDE samples and then take you to a virus landing page. They are trying to create the feel that the virus landing page was of your phones doing and not the result of clicking on the banner.
2b. Yes, exactly.
