Desktop notifications

Around 1 year ago chrome rolled out a feature called desktop notifications. Basically its pretty much same shit as android notifications, except it fires thru the browser.

Basically it looks like this https://goroost.com/try-web-push - I am not affiliated with this.

Now I've tested this quite a bit.. got a few k users in .. on presells and a k or so buyers from some ecommerce shop.

Tested some campaings, delivered agressive msgs to the users.. delivered nice msgs to users.. and all I got was shit - basically nothing.

Now scanning thru the internets I also found no examples of "performance-ish" case studies on use of desktop push notifications, all I got was some fluffer about boring brand stuff eg..
we engage our clients, they like us.. we spend 1 million and got 1k likes and we really proud of ourselves -you know the classic stuff brand agencies deliver when they try to justify dumping the ad budget for 0 effect.

So am wondering is anyone making notifications work properly -in terms of getting roi from them ?

Hey man, thanks for bringing this up. Thought about it long time ago, never had the time to implement and test.

Good ROI on Desktop notifications

We use browser push notifications extensively in our content and ecommerce business with good amount of success. We have seen content sites get a boost of 10 to 20% traffic. Here is a set of data I found useful when comparing Push Notifications to EMail

Essentially it has very high click rate as compared to Email, so you are better off in ways to capture Push subscription. Then the key is personalize and send messages.

Please ask me any questions you may have as I have spent good amount of time on this new channel.

Interesting stuff.

I personally already built a habit to click "Block" if these things pops up. It's quite difficult for the user to turn it off once he subscribe, so yeah it must be quite effective.

Tried these 2 years ago on mobile, but no interesting results, maybe I should retest them again.
