NOT your Typical success story - What’d you do today?

This is for all you Stackers that are into Tesla and other Elon Musk activity or just looking for some motivation

...And we’re just living in it
Yesterday afternoon, Tesla published a post outlining their $2.8B offer to acquire SolarCity, a leading solar provider. This should make you scratch your head for one, glaring, elephant-in-the-room reason.
Musk founded SolarCity with two of his cousins back in 2006, just three years after starting Tesla Motors. That means he has founder equity in both, owning 22.2% of SolarCity and 26.5% of Tesla. Conflict of interest much?
The deal still needs to be approved by shareholders, so it’s not like Elon’s unapologetically scratching his own back, even if his family stands to make upwards of $700m. Still, it feels like this is a piece of a master plan that’s starting to come together.
Try to keep up.

It all starts with Zip2
Elon and his brother started an internet “city guide” in 1995 called Zip2. It cost them $28k. Four years later, Compaq acquired it for $341m and Musk walked away with $22m. He was 28.
That same year, Elon co-founded X.com which, after a merger, turned into PayPal. And just three years later, they were acquired by eBay for $1.5B and the “PayPal mafia” was formed.
While he was still at PayPal in 2002, Musk decided it was time to pursue his life’s goal of colonizing Mars by founding SpaceX with $100m of his own, personal money. Then came Tesla Motors in 2003 and SolarCity in 2006.

The “master plan”
Clearly, Elon is a master leapfrogger - leveraging his money, time, and status to take meaningful steps toward his eventual goal of getting to Mars.
PayPal wasn’t just a payments company, it was the capital he needed to start SpaceX. Tesla isn’t a car company, it’s an excuse to invest billions into battery R&D and build a Gigafactory. And likewise, acquiring SolarCity isn’t just to put solar panels on suburban roofs, it’s a way to create the first “vertically integrated energy company offering end-to-end clean-energy products to customers.”
Before we know it, we’re all going to be buying energy from Elon, driving Elon’s cars (or having them drive us), and living on Elon’s freakin’ planet.

What’d you do today?

Elon and Lyndon Rive (Elon's Cousin/CEO of SolarCity) are abstaining from the vote due to conflicts of interest.
