I'm getting ready to setup my first campaign and want to know if it's "okay" to use Wordpress to create landers?
I'm an SEO guy and have been using Wordpress for all my sites. I know there are lots of plugins, etc that make it easy to build landers on Wordpress.
Haven't seen anyone talk about using it. I tried the STM search but no mention of Wordpress.
Thanks!
Short answer: It's okay but not ideal.
Longer:
Affiliates usually don't use Wordpress for landers because a single HTML page is much easier to hack together, change around, duplicate and create many variations. The problem with Wordpress is all the script calls and database it includes globally. While it may seem minimal, with performance marketing every millisecond counts.
For the most part, a single independent HTML lander will be more efficient. That's why most marketers favour single HTML pages, they can easily move them around into directories, clone them and change a few things with custom script.
I feel like the tools created to make lander creation easier just over complicate things in the end. They are more so tailored to brands who use the same kind of lander for everything. I favour highly unique landing pages like most affiliates!
You can use Wordpress but ONLY if you have a bulletproof caching layer and a very efficient template structure. Check your landing page load times vs. a static html page and let that be the decider. It's more so about what you're comfortable with.
Thanks for the detailed reply! Your explanation definitely gives me a better idea of why it's best to avoid Wordpress.
So if coding isn't my thing (html, css), what are people using to create their landers? DreamWeaver or Adobe Muse?
