Starting with paid or unpaid traffic?

Hi everyone! (Newbie from NYC if anyone is in the area)

First thanks for all the amazing info, i've never been on a forum for anything so chock full as this one. As you'll see I joined for a month years back, and am back with a more serious mindset to actually learn rather than solely chase money.

I completely understand that this forum is 99% paid traffic based.

I came here with the mindset of seriously building the skills of online sales (AM) with a few general goals 1) build a skill that will be transferrable forever in 2) make money on my "own" with the initial stable $3000/month ($100/day) goal 3) to ultimately be able to sell/test demand for my own product quite "easily" in the future when the idea comes.

I've been having analysis paralysis myself on whether someone in my position should first learn to become an expert in copywriting and sell via unpaid "affiliate sites", or jump straight into paid traffic AM like preached on STM. I could easily spend $1k-$2k over the course of a couple of months as needed.

I initially wanted to learn Facebook or Media Buys as that is where I will likely sell products/generate my own leads there in the future, but I heard its either too expensive for a brand new guy, and very easily to get banned.

I'm sure tons of over-analyzing newbs have posed this question, and so I want to get others perspectives on making a decision like this? What is the best use of my time and best ROI?

Thanks!!!!!

Not true. What's your budget? I'm sure your over-analyzing! My tip is to get stuck into paid traffic as soon as possible (performance marketing) it allows for scaling on a level unimaginable for free traffic (unless you're in the 0.01% of copywriters who can print money with words - consistently). Many will have started with less.

A warm welcome. Where in NYC are you? I recommend going to one of the meetups to connect with likeminded people.

Thanks for the reply @bobliu! I live in Manhattan, but can get to just about anywhere in the NYC area - if you're in the area, please let me know! Would love to go to a meetup and waiting for the July details to come up for the STM networking event.

Paid traffic is fast, you can run a ton of volume in a few hours. That's something that's not possible with SEO or any other organic traffic building methods. This also means you can burn a ton of cash withing hours, thats again something that is not possible with organic traffic building methods What path to choose? Depends on what kind of person you are. I love the fact that paid traffic gives me more control than organic, so I vote for paid.

I spoke to a few Affiliate Managers while applying and I got denied mostly from not having a defined traffic source. My plan is to find out which traffic source is best for me and become an absolute expert at it. How do I figure out what traffic source I want to use?
