(Newbie Guide) Affiliate Networks, Traffic Sources, & Basic PPV

I'm now going to discuss some basics for those of you who are newer to affiliate marketing.

This first lesson i'll be talking about; Affiliate Networks & Traffic Sources!

Whats an Affiliate Network?
It's the middle man company that connects affiliates and company's promoting products.
There are good and bad Affiliate Networks, good Affiliate Networks, ALWAYS pay on time, they're always available (some even give you there cellphone), and they help you make money by telling you whats doing good, and tips to promote it!

Let me list you my top Affiliate Networks:

Traffic Sources

UPDATED - Read Stackman's Guide To What Works In 2013

This is one of the keys to making money online. There are tens of thousands of different companies to buy ads from. I'm going to start you off with the major 3. They're the 2 largest places to buy PPC traffic from, you can start with less than $50 for all of them, and they have TONS of traffic for you to buy for when you strike a golden egg campaign.

1. https://adwords.google.com
2. http://www.facebook.com/advertising

If you've already dabbled in affiliate marketing and your looking for more traffic sources to help you make big $, i suggest the 3 below.

1. https://adcenter.microsoft.com
(People always under estimate MSN, but they've now partnered with Yahoo.com and they always have awesome conversion rates for the right niches)
2. http://www.pulse360.com (Great for media buying)
3. http://www.bidvertiser.com (Smaller but very untapped PPC company)

Finally lets dabble into PPV
PPV is a type of advertising that displays popups to people who have the popup company's software installed on their computer.

It works like this:
"Sammy" has installed a game that contained a form of ad-ware in it. This ad-ware is not intrusive, except for the fact it displays popups over a certain interval of time to "Sammy".

The next day Sammy goes to Apple.com to look for a new computer. While Sammy is browsing Apple.com a popup comes up that offers her a deal for something.

This popup was made by an affiliate marketer (or website owner) who is bidding on the Apple.com URL.

The popup can be clicked which will take sammy to an affiliate offer.

- Bids usually start at 1cent
- URLs and Keywords can be bid on by multiple affiliate marketers
- Every bid raises the bidding price by 0.01 (1cent)

You mentioned adCenter.
I tried to promote some Clickbank products without much success.
What are the "right" niches you are talking about?

With adcenter all you need to do is think about a couple things:
- Who would still use MSN for search? -- My guess is blue chip style business people or older people, say 50+
- What would that group of people be interested in buying? -- My guess, insurance/biz/software/elderly health?/ mature dating/ etc..

I haven't personally tested any of my answers above, this is just me thinking out loud.

That's true for MSN/BING

But yahoo users are still some of the best buyers out there.

Are these the only PPV traffic sources? Wondering if any more out there.

@danny27 there are more networks out there but those are the major ones with the most traffic, adoori.com could also be added to that list.
If you are starting out I would recommending testing with those listed and the best one for me being leadimpact.

If your trying to promote ClickBank products on adCenter or adWords, Your not going to have a very good time. The landing page quality from CB is almost always non compliant with msn and googles standards. It might slip through for a while but they usualy ban them pretty quick. I learn the hard way wasted some cash tryin to promote CB on search traffic and didnt have time to fully test out the offer before some ads got pulled, and more were disaproved right from the start. Its very misleading alot of the times because the clickbank affilaites themselves will say this offer is good to go on adwords and such and meanwhile their site is blacklisted and they know it. Personally, I think promoting CB especially through search traffic is a big mistake. IMHO 90% of the offers on CB would be dissaproved on almost any major paid source, and TBH look like complete scams for the most part, offering miraculous cures to this or that which clearly is BS most of the time. Any other input on click bank? Id love to hear what some others think of it...

Hey, everyone. I'm trying to figure out the best format for a pop up "banner" on DirectCPV. By banner, I mean a web page that is just a big image and when you click on it, it takes you to a different landing page or the offer that would open in another window.

So I know how to make the click on the banner open in a new window, but I don't get the best format for the destination page I give to DirectCPV. If I just make a 400x300 image and throw it on a web page and link to that, is that it? Or do I have to do something else to the page so it sizes right?

Thanks!

I think I found the answer to my own question.

DirectCPV's pop ups are 800x600. So if you want to do a big image, just make it slightly smaller than that (so you don't have scroll bars) and you should do fine.
