Mobile Appetiser - Pin Submit

Hi everyone. I'm Neil and this follow along post is about my first attempt to promote and profit from mobile offers using the Mobile Cookbook Appetiser method.

Personally, my objective for doing this follow along post is simply to share my experience to other affiliate marketers who are also just starting to learn the skill of promoting and creating profitable mobile campaigns and to understand how to move forward in the event the campaign doesn't work out well which is 99% going the case and to leverage the successful affiliate marketers' knowledge who would hopefully share their inputs through this thread.

I did asked my AM and she gave me a few offers that are doing well for affiliates promoting in Singapore and Malaysia geos. And after a week of procrastination and over reading AM related posts, I finally decided to take action. The last article that I read was Servando Silva's "10 mistakes every new affiliate does (or thinks)" [http://servandosilva.com/10-mistakes...filiate-does/] where the 10th mistake is "10. Reading too much". Unfortunately, this weekend when I checked again, the only active offer left is the PIN submit offer while the sweeps offers that I initially planned to promote can't be found anymore. Anyway, I decided to proceed with the PIN submit.

So here is the start of my follow along.

Offer: PIN submit Whatsapp Wallpaper offer
Traffic: Malaysia
Traffic source: Go2mobi
Daily budget: $30 (but after I got up today, I already used up almost $50; min. daily budget allowed by Go2mobi is $50)
Banner: 5 different 320 x 50 banners
Angles: I got my wife to make 5 different banners (Themes: Animal, Cars, Movie, Scary (lol), plain no theme)
Highest CTR: 0.66% (Animal themed banner)
Revenue: $0

Here is the screenshot of my campaign's report.

One of my banners, the animal themed, got a CTR of 0.66% while the cars themed and movie theme got the least CTR of 0.48% and 0.49% respectively. I did not get any conversions from this round. After the banner, the user is taken straight to the offer's landing page. I believe the zero conversion is due to the lack of funnel to push them to take action in the end.

Questions:
1) At this point of testing, should I remove any banners that did not get above 0.50% CTR?
2) Do I need to add banners and maintain at least 5 images every time?
3) For PIN submits, are landers normally called for to help condition the users to take action on the final offer's landing page?
4) Isn't the ave. $0.40 bid price CPM too high?
4) Overall, what do my campaign's figures tell me? Apologies in advance, I'm sure I can read this somewhere on STM but I'm still gonna ask anyway.

Hi Neil.
First of all, great banners! I really like them and I surely would click on them! You're very good with Photoshop.

I see a lot of myself in your campaign. I too want to start a campaign (my first one ever) using the appetizer and I'm currently waiting for my AM to approve my banners and start.

As I wrote here I think that the lack of a lander, although we go mobile, really harms the conversions because people may like the banners but without a convincing landing page they won't submit/register/whatever.
IMHO I think that the only cases in which you don't need a lander are mainly when you direct-link a game/app to appstore/playstore or when a user is really interested in the product. That's my opinion as a newbie, I may be wrong.

Hello,

for offers like whatsapp wallpapers, you need to be pretty aggressive with your methods and make them believe they need this. Its not the most clean/legit of all offers, the key is to make people believe they are getting an update for whatsapp, that they need it in order for the app to keep on working. Those that register don't really want wallpapers ... so much for a reality check So if you want to go on with it, do some spying and find such LPs, it's definitely not gonna work without them.

Since you didn't get any conversions, you can't optimize anything. Cutting banners or placements ... it would be pointless. You need to get the LPs first and start getting conversions.

To answer your questions :

1. you can't cut anything without conversions as you don't know yet whether the banners have potential or not.
2. you don't have to, but 5 is a good number to go with.
3. yes, LPs do the pre-selling for any vertical, not just PINs. You have to use them to warm the user up and make him wan't to finish the registration process.
4. the bid is high, or not This depends on how good your funnel is, but since it's not converting yet, it's impossible to tell. On a side note : for these GEOs, I would personally bid lower.
5. right now your figures tell you that you need a LP and maybe better banners too, as it's not gonna work this way, nothing more, nothing less

BTW: there is one thing you can do in terms of optimization right now thou, look at the placements and cut those that have HORRIBLE CTR - so if your average is like 0.5%, you can cut anything below 0.1% or so. There will be some budget drainers like this for sure.

Looking forward to your progress
