I'm located in NZ and want to open a Braintree or Stripe account to sell products in USD. I've been told that I need a registered company in USA, an address in the USA and an USD account.
- So far, I've learnt that I need to go to a branch in the USA to open a USD bank account.
- Bank of America or City Bank will allow foreginers to open USA accounts without a SSN.
Has anyone gone through this process? Any tips would be appreciated.
The easiest way to do is is find a formation company to help you open a corp, and then ask them to help you arrange a bank account for this corp.
For example, mynewcompany.com is based in Las Vegas, if you open a corp in Nevada with them, they can hook you up to open a bank account.
Although if you are not american, most banks will ask you as the UBO to have an ITIN #.
It's a pain in the ass but you can do it. Wells Fargo does it but you have to go in person.
It's a pain in the ass to do it. I was able to get an account, because NAB (National Australia Bank) has a subsidiary in America called Great Western Bank.. Otherwise, it's quite difficult. You can do it in person a lot easier than over the internet. So you might need to book a flight.
Also, Stripe has an in house service: https://stripe.com/atlas I haven't tried it, but it might work if you're running something legit.
Stripe/Braintree allow you to charge in USD, they just convert to your local currency before depositing which sucks.
Go w/ Stripe Atlas. For $500 USD, they will set you up w/ a Delaware Corp and link you up w/ Silicon Valley Bank. Stripe folks are good people.
Yeah. I wasn't accepted into that. However, Braintree is about to offer multicurrency accounts which is great!
