My First Campaign, please help :)
So , I launched my first campaign yesterday following the Mobile Appetizer guide, so far, not so good, so if you can point to what I'm doing wrong, I would really appreciate it.
Just a note, I'm not expect this campaign to make any money, it's just a campaign to get me started and learn the ropes. I think I'll learn alot more doing hands-on work than reading.
Below is a summary of what, where and how I did it.
Network:
- MaxBounty.com
- After reading some of the guides, I decided to try Sweeps, not sure if it's still the 'hot' niche right now, after all, the guide was written in 2015.
- I chose a Win an iPhone 7 offer, payout of $1/lead, targetting New Zealanders. ( this is their lander: http://www.oz-gifts.com/cgi-bin/wing...reetest_pk=196 )
Traffic Source:
- I went with go2mobi
- Deposit $500
- Setup a campaign with $50/day budget, Freq. cap: 1 ( see attachment for full setup )
Results so far: (as of writing this)
- 153 clicks / $15.60 spend / earned $1
(see attached )
Problems
- Obviously, the biggest problem is the conversion is shit. $15 spend to make $1. What would be my next step in optimizing? create more banners? or create a lander?
I don't care if it doesn't make a profit at the end of it all, I just want to learn how to optimize, down to $10 spend for $1, then $5 spend to $1
- My MaxBounty account show there's 1 conversion, but it's not registered with go2mobi. So maybe my callback code is wrong? I followed the appetizer tutorial, but look like the tutorial's system ( cake ) is different to what maxbounty is using, can anyone shed some lights on this?
Thanks in advance guys

Your heart and head are definitely both in the right place - at this point it IS more important to learn than to profit.
One suggestion: It would be better to upload your images to imgur.com and paste the BB Code link in your post. Right now the images aren't clear - especially the first 2.
Here are additional suggestions:
-
Your banners are basically the same banner in several different colors and with 2 similar images. The conversion rates between them will be very very similar which is NOT what you want. You're wanting to test different angles, headlines, and images, in order to cast a wide net. For a sample banner testing strategy please see:
http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...l=1#post248574
-
For sweeps, using a landing page would most probably make offers convert better. Ripping some landers from spy tools like adplexity would be a good start.

As for the postback link: I'm assuming you're not using a tracker? Try replacing #s2# with #S2# and #price# with #RATE#. For details on maxbounty tokens please see here:
http://maxbounty.com/help.cfm?id=12
I wished I could check the campaign link you put into go2mobi to confirm that it contains the correct tokens. If you could please paste it in here next time, I'll take a look.
Looking forward to seeing some new creatives!

Hi MrT,
Congrats on getting a conversion. I'm also doing the sweeps & Go2mobi combo. I already spent close to $100 with zero conversions, so you are doing better than me. I think I may start creating some landing pages for my sweep offers.
Cheers,
Gordon

lol, thanks. I thought mine was bad. I paused the campaign, it reached $26 spend and still just the 1 conversion. Good luck

Thanks Amy for the tips. I'm thinking of just closing this campaign and try another offer, or do you think it's worth pushing a little harder?
You're right about the banners, to be honest, I was just being lazy lol. I think I'll start a new campaign and post a proper follow along.
Thanks

IMO, you haven't even given that offer a chance to shine at all. Basically you were using a single banner and without a landing page.
Having said that - there may be less-competitive geos to start with. Hint: Many Asian, LATAM and African geos have good traffic volume and are less competitive. And if you want to stick with English - some of those geos speak English as well.
So - you can choose to retest that NZ offer, or not. Either way, I would recommend split-testing offers from the start, especially since there being so many sweeps offers available. That will provide you with a greater chance of finding a good offer. Also, try to stick to offers that AMs tell you are proven, i.e. that a bunch of other affs have been running it with success. This is especially important when you're breaking into a new vertical.
The reason I always recommend for new people to stick with proven offers and ripped landers in the beginning, is so they won't get into a "catch 22" situation - where they take a random offer, create a few banners, make one lander and set up a campaign, and when they see no conversions they have NO IDEA what is wrong. Instead of using an unproven offer + unproven banners + unproven lander, try to use proven offers, sort-of-proven landers (by ripping all the most-often-seen landers - at least some will work to some degree when everyone's using them!), and just keep testing different banner angles and images until you find one that does well enough for you to continue optimizing your camp (cut placements etc.)
And of course, feel free to include ripped banners in your initial testing as well. Although based on personal experience (which aren't too extensive for display traffic - I mostly work with pop), banners I came up with myself have almost always outperformed ripped ones. YMMV of course.
Please do keep us posted on progress!

Thanks for the suggestions Amy. I agree with you that I didn't give the offer much of a chance, I just feel I haven't done much with the campaign so if I'm going to focus on a campaign now, I might as well try something different, but you're right, I might give it another go, if I can at least improve this campaign just by a bit, I've learnt something.
Cost is also an issue, AU/NZ US/CA/UK traffic are expensive, I want to try an asian offer, but havent been able to find something suitable AND english.
I think the best way to learn at this stage is just to rip a campaign, I've signed up to Adplexity, but I'm finding it hard to find a campaign that is still running and available in my networks ( I have clickdealers/MundoMedia/MaxBounty ), I guess I still need some time to understand how adplexity works, but at the moment, I don't see the value in $249/mo price tag. Are there any resources to learn how to make the most of Adplexity, or spy tools?
Thanks again for your time and inputs.
T.

Ok, I've modded my campaign.
I've made the following banners:
http://imgur.com/a/O9EkN
and ripped+modded this lander: http://iwinquiz.com/mb-iphone/
Waiting for approval and will report back results
To Do:
- There's no tracking yet, I need to sign to for a tracker ( got a Voluum account, need to upgrade to a plan ) - if there's improvement in conversions, it'll motivate me to work on tracking.

What about MY and SG?

I don't really use adplexity for intelligence gathering, although I know many people do. So unfortunately I don't have enough expertise to share regarding this.
Usually, I would decide on a vertical+geo first, then rip different-style landers from adplexity to test offers to find at least one that's promising (breaking even or better), and go from there. (For example, test custom and original landers.)
Your banners and lander look good! There's a spelling error on one of the banners - "answer" is spelled incorrectly.
You're skilled at making banners - they look very professional and pretty. However, ugly will often work better, because people are more "blind" to professional-looking banners from big brand products. Try to make really amateurish-looking banners and test those. It may make you cringe to have to produce ugly creatives given your skills, but for the sake of science, that's the kind of sacrifice you may have to make.
Signing up for a tracking service would definitely be wise. It's one of those things you can't live without.
Looking forward to seeing how your new creatives do!

Hey, @MrT, I just subscribed to your thread. You are doing great job. Banners look awesome, but Amy was right, that it doesn't make them more convertible. So, I suggest you to split test your creatives, offers and cominations. In case when there is one and the same offer on several CPA networks, you also can determine which of them brings more conversations, and how many redirects are made before the user gets to your offer. That's a basic functionality for any tyracker nowadays. Contact me if you need any help with settings.

Thanks guys.
Didn't have time yesterday to work on this so I paused the campaign. Just uploaded a few more ugly banners ( http://imgur.com/a/BDQSn ) and will compare with the other ones and see how they go.
PS. I waiting to start the AMC next week, might have to dump these and work on the course specific campaigns. If so, I might do a follow-along for that.

VERY nice!!

I can tell you right now that these will do better than your last batch. Heck, I would click on them myself even!
Those broken screens will capture people's attention for sure. I'm gonna try that trick on my own banners too when I get a chance.

That would probably be a good idea because the course will be very intensive. We'll be asking you to launch camps on multiple sources. Should be lots of fun, but please get lots of sleep the rest of this week while you still can.
See you in AMC!

Thanks Amy,
You're making me nervous, lol. I can only afford 3 hours a day ( weekdays, less on weekends ) - so I hope I will survive through it.
That campaign is still not converting after another $20 spend, so I paused ( probably kill it off ) and started a new campaign with better results
New Offer:: Guaranteed Winner sweeps.
Payout: $0.80/lead
Traffic: Mobile ( go2mobi )
LP: Direct Link - I thought their provided lander is pretty good already. http://maxbounty.com/getlp.asp?m=183...&l=8930&s=full
Geo: A few, but I chose South Africa
Just a quick test, so I only made 3 banners for it: http://imgur.com/a/Sy6kr (conversions are still not shown in go2mobi, so have to sort that out )
Result so far: http://imgur.com/AsMWAM7 - and http://imgur.com/p506IXb
So I've spent $10.85 and made $4.80 - a loss, but a much better result than the previous offer, considering I only tested it with 3 banners, 1 size, and I don't even know which one made the conversions, if it's just one banner that made the conversions, eliminating the other would turn it into the greens.
Next step:
- Make more banners, across different sizes
- Possibly a pre-sell LP) to hype up the offer more, IF I can find time.
- Tracking
Update edit: Got go2mobi to track conversions finally. And total conversion now is $8.80 with $19 spend ( on same creatives and traffic, havent done anything else to it )
