Hi all,
I'm trying to capitalize on high quality audience in a specific niche, so retargeting to our audience via facebook (directly) and other networks (via PA), getting them back to a different lander.
Currently the situation is -
- From thousand+ daily visitors, we manage to capture only a few via PA.
- PA CTR is low, less than 1%, which drives the CPC to about $5.
- The facebook retargeting seems to work better, but still CTR is low and overall amount is dismal.
Anybody successfully retargeting? What type of cpc are you getting, and overall response to your ads?
How would you go about remarketing if you could not use the GAD directly?
Do you find remarketing campaign bringing in people with high conversion intent?
Ultimately, we would want to bring back the highest volume of visitors the soon as possible to our lander.
Appreciate the help!
What does PA stands for?
Perfect Audiance
are you an affiliate or a product owner?
if you have your own product you have way more options, see this article by mike Rhodes (it is actually 3 articles in 1) on retargeting on the digital marketer blog (splitting the traffic by interest and time)
http://www.digitalmarketer.com/remarketing-grid/
if you are an affiliate you may want to check this article, on separating interested people from non interested

and here is another awesome strategy for product owners

hope this helps, I used the retargeting in Google with the cookie delay, but always showed the same ad, so results were not great, planning to use the remarketing grid of Mike Rhodes more
Hey Lucad2008, thanks for the reply.
I'm familiar with the 1st post you shared, new to the others. We are both affiliates and product owners, but mostly promote other's products in this specific niche.
The main issue we have is, we KNOW that these visitors are interested, they first came to our website searching for high intent keywords (PPC, organic), so they are all high intent.
Now it's our duty to retarget these visitors and try to get them back for lower cost instead of getting new audience (which we also do).
Anyway, im just surprised by the low CTR and high CPC for now. 2nd issue is not using GAD but a 3rd party like PA or AdRoll, any experience to share?
Best,
Hi basedaffiliate, we are going to be trying a new retargeting strategy soon, the issue we think we might encounter is if we will get enough volume of specific target audience... I´ve subscribe to this thread, so if the strategy works I will definately get back to you.
My CTR is quite low too (between 0.22% to 0.56%) but you shouldn't forget the visitors who come back to your site because they were reminded of it.
More important than CTR in your retargeting campaign is your CTC (click through conversion), VTC (view through conversion) and ultimately your CPA (cost per aquisition). If your targeting is good your CPA will be low and that is what counts.
Check the attached picture for one of my latest campaigns on Adroll. See how the VTC is 17 times bigger than the CTC - those people didn't click back, but they came back and converted. A reminder was all they needed.

You should retarget based on a very specific action.
e.g. Users that clicked Add to Cart but didn't buy.
Don't forget to use the Lookalike Audience targeting on FB based on whatever event is ROI positive above.
You should definitely segment the visitors based on their actions, but don't ignore those who only visited your site and only read what you have to offer. They came in the first place, so there's an interest that you can and should nurture.
The main reason why the CTR is low, despite the fact that they are targeted, is because your banners are being shown multiple times to the same pool of people. Let's say you select a cookie duration of 90 days, then anyone who was cookied will see your banners for the next 90 days. Let's imagine that you have only 1 cookied visitor, and he sees your banners only 3 times per day. Let's also imagine that he clicks your banners 4 times during this 90 day period.
4 clicks / 270 impressions = 1.5% CTR
I'm guilty of not doing it, but obviously you can improve this by changing your banners on a regular basis.
vitavee, in the scale we are doing things and obtaining traffic, we ultimately look at the amount of clicks and conversions (obviously), but interested to see what is the CTR.
If someone visited one of our sites, and clicked again on our retargeting ads, means he is interested in SOME product or offer in that respective niche.
