Is there a way to get more value out of mobile pops? We already paid for the click, but instead of getting them to see the offer once, we can send them to the offer again using backbuttons. I wonder if there are other ways to build out these funnels instead of just backbutton redirects.
Yes there are more ways, but some of them will get you in trouble with your traffic sources, so keep that in mind.
Here is what you can do :
1. backbutton - the most accepted and you're already doing that
2. entry popunder - you can open a new offer "under" the active window - not really loved by the sources
3. exit pop/popunder - when a user decides to close the active window (hit X), you open a new offer - this is usually ok with the networks
4. entry alert - that small window that pops up when the page loads, looks like a system message - it brings the popunder on top so somet networks dont like it, its banned pretty often
5. exit alert - when you hit X, a small window pops up asking if you are serious - it can also pre-load a page in the background and redirect the user to it if he/she decides to close. - another case by case issue
These are the main ones - chain them and you're asking for a ban hammer hit
Proceed with caution.
Is there a way to open a new offer "under" (entry pop under) with mobile phones? Same for option 3 and 4. Or do they only apply to desktops?
Generally if a window is popped and it wasn't caused by a user clicking, it'll get blocked by the browser. For this reason entry popunders will fail the majority of the time.
3 and 4 work perfectly on mobile - the exit popunder working because the window is spawned by a user click.
In terms of the technical detail for that, I set up my CTAs with an onclick handler redirecting the current page (which becomes the popunder) to the popunder lander, and set the target on my CTA to _blank so it pops a new window in front showing the offer at the same time.
Where can I find the script for exit popup? I think I'm leaving money on the table when people close the tab. I tested direct linking and it does convert for my offer so yeah maybe some people just need to see the offer to convert.
Also wondering where you find the script for this. And how it acts different on mobile - back button redirect is well known BUT does it work on mobile devices?
Backbutton redirect works on mobile devices. In fact some placements only convert on the first or second backbutton. Some people just need to be offered the same thing twice or more. The thing I'm not too sure about is how to track these placements that only convert on the backbutton. Also not sure if it's worth doing anyway.
